A funny thing happened while we were having dinner.

"Did you enjoy your steak, sir?" the friendly waiter asked.

"Yeah," Logan replied. "Masarap."

They cleared our table and we asked for the bill. When it arrived, Logan yelled, "What the f*ck?!"

"What?! What?!" I asked.

"Tama ba 'to?" he asked one of the waiters who ran to our table in distress.

"P1,700 for the Steak and Fries?"

"Ah, yes sir," the waiter answered.

"Sh*t!" Logan looked at me. "Ang tingin ko P170 lang."

Normally, any girl would turn red all over in embarrassment. After all, there were people staring at us. In fact, that was what I thought would happen to me, but it didn't. I laughed. I laughed so hard that Logan started laughing, too. Even the waiter laughed, politely of course.

"Tumatanda ka na talaga!" I joked when my laughter died down. "Lumalabo na 'yung mga mata mo."

"Suntukin kita e," he teased back. "Wala kasing decimal point." He pointed to the menu and laughed again with me.

So that night, Logan and I ended up paying more than we intended to spend on our monthsary dinner.

"Treat mo na 'yon sa sarili mo," I said as I patted him on the back when we left the restaurant and headed to Coffee Bean and Teal Leaf. "You've been working so hard."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

With Logan, budget is always an issue. He's not one of those guys who are so kuripot they don't dare let you get a whiff of something fancy. Logan is kuripot in the sense that he wants to get more out of the money he spends. He loves to indulge in fine things provided he knows the budget beforehand.

Logan has a strong sense of value for money, and I admire that. He's not one of those guys who flash their plastic around and waddle away cash night after night without thinking of tomorrow. Logan thinks way ahead. That's one of the many fine qualities I lack.
