I thought we were all okay. And since I got tired of partying and started rallying myself at work, I decided to go home early to work on some sideline projects. Clad in my usual shirt and shorts ensemble, Sam and Ana would find me sprawled on the couch, furiously typing on my laptop with chips and soda on the side. One evening, Ana came by and brought dinner.

"Hey guys, I bought dinner," she said as she entered the door.

Sam and I were watching reruns of F.R.I.E.N.D.S., a show that he loved and I hated. He stood up, kissed Ana, and helped her with the packages of food.

"Hey, Ana," I called while munching on a bag of Lay's.

"Hi, Veronica," she replied as she helped Sam in the kitchen.

"Uy, you bought kilawin, sarap nito," Sam said. "V, you want the usual?"

"What usual?" Ana asked.

And before I could answer, Sam explained, "Well, she doesn't eat kilawin kasi.  he thinks it's sushi. Ano V, three-cheese omelet?"

"Uh, well, sige," was all I could say.

Ana didn't say much after that and I just kept quiet. Sam meant well. He knew I couldn't stand uncooked fish. But to a girlfriend's perspective, it meant something else; something that shouted "I care for this girl so much, I don't mind cooking her favorite food."

One morning, I overheard them talking.

"Baby, why are you brewing coffee?" Ana asked. "I thought we're having breakfast at the resto?"

"It's for V," Sam answered.

"Why do you have to do that?" she asked, her voice rising. "Can't she brew her own coffee?"

"Well, it's our thing," Sam replied in a voice that could be misconstrued in so many ways. "She can't live without it."

To this day, I still assumed that it was my three-cheese omelet that sparked Ana's curiosity and my brewed coffee that made her snap, because days after I overheard them talking, Ana accused Sam of cheating behind her back. And the third party? Innocent me.
