"Please tell me that's Riah's milk in a cocktail glass," Gail asked me, pointing at her baby girl who was sitting pretty on a lounge chair between her crazy godmothers.
"Relax, hot momma," I replied smiling. "That's her Lactum."
The next morning, we ate at HEAT and then went for a dip in the pool. Gail sat beside her baby girl, who was wearing the most adorable pink summer dress I'd ever seen on a baby. Nicia and I transferred her baby's milk from her feeding bottle to a cocktail glass. As crazy as 20-something godmothers could get, we also taught Rihanna how to sip her milk using a straw. She was a fast learner.
"You two are spoiling her too much," Gail said with a knowing smile, looking at us. She turned to Nicia and said, "Naalala mo 'yung malaking teddy bear na binigay n'yo nung birthday niya? Napaka-possessive! Ayaw ipahawak sa iba!"
The chinita was busy ranting on the phone to Ken so I answered for both of us, "Well, why not? Besides, she's turning 2 next next week right? When I have kids, I'll spoil them in every possible way."
"Hah! Baka magsisi ka!" Gail laughed.
"Sino'ng spoiled?" Nicia asked, just as she stretched her legs on the lounge chair.
"You are, Miss Unica Hija," I said.
"I'm not," Nicia denied. We all laughed.
"Speaking of spoiled," Gail started. "Nakita ni Rihanna 'yung mga pictures ko sa Tokyo Disneyland dati. Tapos sabi niya, 'Mama, I want to go here, here, here.'"
"Talaga?" Nicia said as she straightened up. "Naku, gastos 'yan sa 'yo, haha!"
"Astig," I replied. Facing Rihanna now, I said, "Riah, repeat after me: 'Mama, I want Prada. If you don't give me Prada, I will bite yaya.'"
And the three of us laughed just like the old times. Well, sort of. Years ago, we still didn't have Riah. Originally, we were five girls in the group—Mylle was the first to get married, in college, and Zhe left for Dubai almost right after her college graduation.
Gail, Nicia, and I used to cut classes and meet in Gateway for a five-hour lunch break/chat fest. Our 'big' issues then sound so mundane now: attendance, allowance, dating issues, Nicia's against-all-odds drama with Ken, and how to graduate on time. Back then, we busied ourselves with concerts, inuman sessions with our tight high school crowd, and our damned theses. Back then, it was only us girls and our guy friends driving to Enchanted Kingdom on a limited budget. Today, we have Mylle's and Gail's baby girls, our boyfriends, and a more complicated budget. Looking at Gail now makes me realize how much we've changed.
To top it all off, Riah doesn't have a yaya. Apart from having a full-time job, Gail does her own laundry, her own grocery-shopping, and her own nails. She does all these on top of doing her own boyfriend, er, okay pun intended (Gail please don't kill me). What I'm trying to say is, I have no idea how she manages to do all these on top of having an active social life, a fulfilling relationship, and a bouncing baby girl.
And that's why Nicia and I have the utmost respect and love for our dear friend Gail. She's one of those petite women with a super suit in their closets, just like my mother.

2. Times may change, but friendships such are these won't. They remain classic through the years, like Chanel and Prada. :P
