Too Many Questions

“What’s wrong, Veronica?”
“Oh, nothing,” I said. “The wine’s getting to me I guess.”
“Well, I think you’ve had enough,” Matt said as he reached over and took my glass. “Let’s have dinner. What will you have?”
We were at Barcino, Matt and I, enjoying a bottle of red wine and a plate of antipasti. It was Friday again--two full weeks since I left Sam in his condo, sipping champagne.
It was raining.
The past two weeks had been great. Matt would call everyday to check in on me and we would have coffee after work and talk till the wee hours of the morning. The last fifteen minutes are probably the greatest. He would park the car a few blocks away from our house in Quezon City and we would kiss torridly as the rain pounded away outside, covering the surroundings in a blanket of rain.
Have you ever felt like every inch of you is alive?
This is one of those rare moments.
And that’s why I’m here...even if my mind gives me too many reasons to stay away and run back to my safe place. Maybe my heart gravitates toward that which is unknown and dangerous...things that could make it skip a beat and race like hell again...toward someone I can’t really figure out.
What are we?
What are we doing?
What are these emotions I’m feeling?
Why am I here?
And why do I feel like this is the start of a very long hangover?
