We dug through the new book Liespotting: Proven Techniques To Detect Deception by Pamela Meyer, and discovered some interesting info about what drives men to make stuff up.
1. His main lie motivator? Bragging. Guys most often fib to appear more powerful or successful than they truly are. Unless it’s a big lie, he’s probably just doing it to impress you.
2. Men lie about themselves eight times more often than they do about other people (such as to help a friend save face). So, if he backs you up in a sticky sitch, then he truly digs you.
3. Guys feel less guilt-ridden and anxious after lying than women do. On the flip side, that also means men feel less betrayed when someone lies to them.
4. The second most common reason dudes lie is to avoid conflict. It’s why they say stuff like “I’ll call” or “I paid the bill yesterday” when they really won’t…or didn’t.
