We love them for their talent, style, humor, or apparent perfection. Yes, celebrities encapsulate almost everything many of us aspire to be or to have in our lives. However, with the advances in technology, the so-called reality TV phenomenon (created mainly for high ratings), and the degradation of values with today’s take-it-or-leave-it mentality, it’s almost impossible to see and appreciate people for who they really are.
How are any of us supposed to get any source of inspiration if we can no longer decipher what’s real and what’s not? The confusion has led many of us to self-loathe and to doubt our worth as beautiful, spiritual creatures.
Despite what publicists, agents, family members, or conscience may coach celebs to mimic in the name of political correctness, great ratings, or mere shock value, some still fail at interviews for lack of intelligence, sensitivity, or depth of character. 'Guess they just should stick to what they’re good at, be it acting, singing, or dancing, perhaps?
Then again, there are a few ripe pickings of iconic, inspiring phrases that have left the powerful mouths of our favorite celebrities and historical, influential people in the world of fashion, art, and beauty. Here are a few of them that we highly suggest you keep to heart.
OUR BODY: A TEMPLE OF UNIQUE BEAUTY
"I think that whatever size or shape [of] body you have, it's important to embrace it and get down! The female body is something that's so beautiful. I wish women would be proud of their bodies and not diss other women for being proud of theirs!"
- Christina Aguilera
"I'd much rather be known as some curvy Kate than as some skinny stick."
- Kate Winslet
"You must never underestimate the power of the eyebrow."
– Jack Black
"Art is not the application of a canon of beauty, but what the instinct and the brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don’t start measuring her limbs."
- Pablo Picasso
"I rejected some gorgeous publicity shots because they just didn't look like me. I won't wear skanky clothes that show off my booty, my belly or boobs. I have a great body. I could be Britney. I could be better than Britney."
- Avril Lavigne
"I don't try to be a sex bomb. I am one."
- Kylie Minogue
"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society."
- Mark Twain
"Black women don't have the same body image problems as white women. They are proud of their bodies. Black men love big butts."
- Tyra Banks
The great and ever gorgeous Sophia Loren has said that sex appeal is half what you’ve got and half what people ‘think’ you’ve got and that couldn’t be more true!
FORGET NOT THE BEAUTY OF INDIVIDUALITY
"For me, it might sound cliche, but beauty for me really does start on the inside. It's like a state of mind, a state of love if you will. Then, whatever you can do on the outside is all like a bonus."
- Queen Latifah
"There's more to life than being really, really, really good looking."
- Ben Stiller
"Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful."
- Jacqueline Bisset
LIVE THE DREAM WITH INTEGRITY
"I like to dream, but I like to make things happen."
- Heidi Klum
"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different."
- Coco Chanel
"The only place where success comes before work is in a dictionary."
- Vidal Sassoon
"Well, if you are walking into a club with friends and you don't have a smile on your face you are going to look lame. But if you're happy and smile you look cute!"
- Paris Hilton
Paris may not be Shakespeare, but it sure does make sense to always bring a positive vibe wherever, whenever, right?
Last but not the least, this is one for the books that simply prove that we really are responsible for every choice we make, both good and bad.
Albert Einstein once said, "Gravity is not responsible for falling in love."
Every person we meet in our lives is meant to teach us something, whether big or seemingly useless. We just have to choose to see what that lesson is. Even through the mistakes of others, we can find wisdom in them and not a reason to ridicule.
A real Cosmo woman who embodies wisdom, beauty, and strength is someone who knows all these and tries her best to remain true to her values.
So here’s MY holiday wish for all you gals as you start the merry month: I wish for you all to be strong. Be wise! Be unafraid to claim your worth in this world! It’s the journey of your life so don’t take the back seat!
