5 Things That Shouldn't Be Reasons To Break Up With Him

These aren't necessarily deal breakers.

1. He doesn’t fit the "ideal boyfriend" peg.

There’s no such thing as the perfect boyfriend. Don’t call him a bad boyfriend just because he doesn’t shower you with expensive gifts, take you on super romantic dates, or worship the ground you walk on. Every guy is different and has his own unique way of showing he loves you. You shouldn’t compare him to other boyfriends, especially fictional ones (we’re looking at you, Ryan Gosling). Love him for who he really is, not what other people say he should be like.

2. You’re not the center of his world.

Keep in mind that he has a life apart from you. It can’t always be about your relationship 24/7. Don’t make tampo or take it against him when he says he wants to hang out with his barkada or play video games with the guys. He needs his space, too. The last thing you want is to be a clingy girlfriend.

3. He’s not comfortable with PDA.

Some people aren’t comfortable with public displays of affection. Just because your guy isn’t as affectionate to you in front of other people doesn’t mean he loves you less. Some guys are really just private by nature. What is important is how he treats you when no one else is around. As long as he treats you well and makes you feel loved, special, and happy, he’s a keeper.

4. Your friends don’t get him.

Unless they have a legit reason not to like him (e.g. he’s abusive, manipulative, a cheater, psychotic, etc.), you shouldn’t break up with him just because your friends don’t think he’s good enough for you. What matters is how he makes YOU feel. Assessing your relationship based on others' opinions will only complicate and confuse things for you. If it really bothers you, talk to your friends and boyfriend about it separately, then find a way for them to get to know each other more.

5. He’s poor.

Life is hard. Not everyone is blessed with a silver spoon in his mouth, so don’t judge your man based on his financial situation. He may not have a lot of money now, but if he’s determined and hardworking, he will work his way up and find a way to provide a better life for both of you. Instead of nagging him about money, show him that you support and believe in him. Being poor only becomes a problem if he is lazy and unmotivated in life.
