After the devastation of typhoon Ondoy, you and your honey are probably thinking twice about shelling out too much on a date, thinking that money would be better spent helping out flood victims or stocking up on supplies to prep yourself for any impending disasters. So if you would still like to enjoy a great meal minus the guilt of spending too much, Cosmo suggests these affordable yet must-try spots.

Banapple
225 Katipunan Ave., Blue Ridge, Quezon City; (02)439-2675
2nd level, Il Terrazzo Mall, 35 Tomas Morato cor. Scout Madrinan, Quezon City; (02)413-2675
For more info, visit www.banapplekitchen.com

What’s In Store: If you and your honey both have an insatiable sweet tooth, you must drop by this quaint little country-style bakeshop that serves a wide selection of pies, cheesecakes, and other baked goodies like muffins and cookies. Longing for a more filling meal? Banapple also offers yummy pasta dishes and mouth-watering meat entrees.

Must-Try: For your main course, try Banapple’s Pasta Verde (P130), penne pasta with basil, pecans, and olive oil. For your guy, recommend the Lasagna Roll-ups (P140), wide lasagna strips rolled up with herbed cream and parmesan cheese, topped with tomato meat sauce and mouth-watering mozarella cheese. Still hungry? Order the Creamy Chicken Pie (only P50!), served with delicious potato salad.

The highlight of any visit to Banapple, though, is a sampling of their special desserts. Feed each other spoonfuls of Myster-Reese’s Wicked Pie (slice, P85; whole, P640), which has a chocolate crust made of peanut butter cookies and cream filling, plus chocolate fudge on top. This sweet treat is topped with Reese’s peanut butter cups, whipped cream, and more chocolate-fudgey goodness for your dining pleasure. Now’s the time to put that “chocolate is an aphrodisiac” theory to the test!

Cash Out: A complete meal will set you back as low as P135 up to P300 per person.

Bubble Tea
LG Floor, Building A, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City; (02) 638-7479
SM North EDSA, The Block Lower Ground Floor, EDSA corner North Avenue, Quezon City; (02) 441-0097
Soon to open at The Fort, Taguig City and Tomas Morato, Quezon City

What’s In Store: This cute, brightly lit resto is inspired by the “bubble tea” places popular in countries such as Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, which serve tapioca drinks (more commonly known as “pearl drinks” here in the country). Your hungry honey will love this spot because aside from the delish drinks, they also serve sumptuous Japanese-style rice meals and pasta, as well as Jap staples such as sushi.

Must-Try: You can’t visit Bubble Tea without tasting their specialty milkshakes and milk teas. They come in medium and large, so you and your man can opt to slurp a drink together for more sweetness. We suggest ice cream-laden milkshakes in Black Sesame (medium, P120; large, P130), Azuki Red Bean (medium, P120; large, P130), or Double Chocolate (medium, P120; large, P130) for a shock of sweet indulgence. If you want to go the healthy route, try Royal Milk Tea (medium, P70; large, P80) instead, a definite winner even without the ice cream bonus. Order the Chicken Teriyaki Doria (P185) with a creamy sauce of mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, and wasabi while your guy chows on the sweet and spicy Hamburg Curry (P185) served with sunny side up. We guarantee, you’re both going to be clearing your plate with gusto!

Cash Out: You can have an uber-filling meal for two for only P500!

Bigoli
4th floor, TriNoma Mall, North Ave., Quezon City; (02) 901-5742

What’s In Store: Does your man go mad for Italian? Instead of burning cash at a high-end Italian resto, why not take him here? Bigoli is an Italian fast food serving scrumptious pasta, pizza, stromboli, piccata, sandwiches, salads, as well as cakes to perfectly cap off that dinner for two. Drinks are bottomless!

Must-Try: Bigoli’s classic pasta dishes come in regular and large while their sandwiches come in half or whole, so you can opt to chow down on your meal solo or share a generous serving with your man. Try the Carbonara (regular, P95; large, P135) and the Spaghetti Bolognese (regular, P75; large, P110) to whet your appetite. Also try the Stromboli in either beef or pork (P115), and end things on a sweet note with Bigoli’s Turtle Cheesecake (P75 per slice) or Tiramisu (P70 per slice).

Cash Out: Savor the tastes of Italy with your lover for as low as P100 (per person) up to P450.
