If you're going through (read: enduring) decoding "does he like me or not?" nightmare scenarios, I feel for you. We've all been there and the constant doubting of your own ability to judge the damn vibe is tiring AF. Obviously, the most logical answer is to, well, just ask them, but that's not everyone's jam.
According to legit, actual, IRL scientists there is a pretty foolproof way of telling whether they're thinking of you as a buddy, or a potential loverrrr. Research in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour has found that apart from the obvious eye contact, eye movement can be a way we subconsciously show attraction.
Medical Daily reports that the researchers found people who are romantically interested in each other tend to stare at each others' heads and chests for longer and more often. Sounds a bit creepy TBH but let's roll with it.
If your crush just thinks of you as a good pal, they'll be more likely to stare at your legs or feet.
They know this because they did some crazy eye-tracking science magic on 100 or so subjects, while they showed them a bunch of pictures of hotties (I made that bit up, I think they were just normal people).
Next time the person you're desperate to smooch fixes their gaze on your feet, don't freak out. They could just be admiring your sneakers...hopefully.
