In these hard and trying times, we know you Cosmo chicks are always on the look out for the best bargains and deals while keeping up with the latest trends. You don't have to spend a fortune to look stylish and fashionable. Sometimes all it takes is the right accessory to make an outfit. It's one of the best ways to update or spice up a plain outfit or an item in your closet that you haven’t worn in a long time. Here are some tips on how and what to look for:
• Don’t go overboard. Oversized and trendy accessories can be overwhelming for some so work with smaller pieces or versions. Even the smallest pieces like not-so-big chandelier earrings, cocktail rings, stacked thin bangles, and brooches can add pizzazz to any outfit. And you don’t even have to wear them all at the same time. The key to accessorizing is choosing the right pieces and the right amount.
• "Fake it until you make it." Cosmo US Senior Web Editor Christie Griffin says you don’t have to spend a lot to look chic and feel like you fit in among the fashionistas who love to sport designer digs. She insists on having an amazing accessory to complement an outfit when out on an important event. If you don’t have the budget to shop for a new one, borrow from a friend or from your mom or sister. But if you insist on toting that latest "it" designer bag, do what Griffin did and rent that Chanel or Balenciaga bag you wish you had. You can visit sites like www.vanityroomunlimited.com that have a variety of designer bags and clothes that you can rent for a day.
• Big and bold. If you’re a fashionista through and through, then pick up large statement accessories at your favorite cheap and chic shopping haunts in the metro. Go for colored fancies, metallic totes, layered or bib necklaces and chokers, or wide studded cuffs and bangles. They are instant cool fashion statements for any outfit, and can even take you from day to night.
Revamp old and new pieces from your wardrobe through fab but pocket-friendly add-ons. View our gallery for some of our finds.
