From being an anchor on ABS-CBN's evening news program TV Patrol, Phoemela Baranda now hosts a segment in the same network's early morning show Umagang Kay Ganda. This fearless chick (she joined Pinoy Fear Factor in 2008) is now UKG's resident fashion expert.
To live up to her image, the model, actress, endorser, and news anchor makes an extra effort to look fresh every morning. She sleeps at 9PM so she can wake up at 2:30AM, to have enough time to primp and prettify for morning viewers. While students, working girls, and moms are deciding what to wear for work, school, or whatever occasion, Phoem is on their TV screens, dishing practical style suggestions.
How was Phoem successfully able to shift from her primetime news stint at night to this super early schedule?
She says, "Before the reformat, kinausap ako. [I was asked,] 'Do you want to do a fashion segment on Umagang Kay Ganda?' Sabi ko, 'Yes! That's my... kumbaga forte.' So, [before I joined the show,] gumising ako nang maaga para manood. Ang daming commercial. Sabi ko, ang dami palang commercial nito, paano ko 'to kakayanin nang live? Kung dun sa bahay ko nakakatulog na 'ko, 'di ba? Parang, bago bumalik si Pinky [Webb] or si Tita Winnie [Cordero], tulog na 'ko. Then I tried coming in one Monday, and iba pala 'yung energy when you're there. Iba 'yung andun ka na kasama 'yung ibang host."
And now, you can catch her dishing style and beauty tips to women and men of all ages every morning, from Monday to Friday. "I'm planning [to do a feature] for summer [about] what to wear and summer outfits for less, then how to get rid of unwanted hair... My peg talaga is F. Mas masa lang in a way na--hindi price range--'yung age range of [the audience] is wider--mommies, etc. Pati men, covered."
But just for Cosmo chicks, the fierce fashion authority shared this summer fashion tip when the team got to chat with her:
"For summer, dress comfortably kasi ang init-init na. But of course if you're going to work, [wear] light colored suits or light colored dresses."
