Cold-Shoulder Gowns Trended At The Golden Globes

It can't be a coincidence, right?

Have you seen all the glamorous red carpet gowns at this year’s Golden Globe Awards? If you have a keen eye for spotting trends, you definitely would have noticed a super popular look from the evening: cold shoulders!

While we’ve seen cold-shoulder tops and dresses on social media and fashion blogs for a year or so now, it might be the first time they made such a prominent appearance on the red carpet—and at a singular event, at that.

Hailee Steinfield

The 20-year-old singer/actress was a vision in a dreamy chiffon purple gown by Vera Wang. Love the sheer bodice!

Sarah Jessica Parker

SJP’s gown is also by Vera Wang—the heavy white fabric definitely suits a more mature client. People seem to think this was a tribute to late Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, and we can see why.

Drew Barrymore

Sparkles never look out of place on the red carpet. Drew’s Monique Lhuillier gown features an alluring deep V neckline and pretty flowing sleeves.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia took a break from her usual figure-hugging mermaid gown by donning a metallic gold Zuhair Murad ensemble. Of course, she also had to show off some skin—the cold shoulder and plunging neckline definitely did the trick!

Nicole Kidman

There’s something about Nicole’s silver gown that bears a striking resemblance to Edwardian dresses from the 1910s (minus the stifling high collar, of course). We’re not at all surprised to learn it’s by Alexander McQueen—the British label has a way of creating romantic and dramatic looks inspired by a bygone era.
