A Woman Scorned
Posted on November 27, 2011 12:00AM

A week had passed since that disastrous night in Greenbelt 3--when Matt ditched me for the nth time, and Charlie slapped me across the face in disgust--and also to bring me back to my senses.
I spent that week brewing evil plans in my head. I burned every freaking journal I wrote during all those years I labeled "magical." I deleted all Facebook contacts I only added because of him. I wrote my articles with the speed and focus of a scorned woman, and I spent my free time daydreaming about what I would do to the man if, by any chance, our paths crossed again. I was seriously considering using pepper spray.
Yes, I was angry.
I was really, really angry.
And it actually felt good to finally release all that pent up anger I never thought I had. -
"I'm Sorry, Charlie"

At first I thought it was an illusion designed to make me feel more horrible than I already did. But no, it wasn't an illusion. Charlie was actually there.- Innocence Gone

When the waiter handed me the bill, he had to tap me twice on the shoulder to check that I wasn't lost in a trance. I opened my purse, handed him some crisp bills, and proceeded to watch my past run wild in my head.- Who's That Girl?

We're finally here.
"So, we finally meet," Stacy started.
"Yeah," I replied. "We're finally here."
Stacy smiled. "I've always been curious about you."
"Shouldn't I be the one telling you that?" I said as I smiled back.
She laughed. "Really? You're curious about me?"
"Yes," I answered. "You were Matt's precious little thing."
The smile that lit her face suddenly disappeared. She straightened her back, flipped her hair, and looked almost ready to strike. Our coffee and cake arrived and we diverted all our attention to the hot brew in front of us.- The Girl Who Changed Matt Forever

Stacy is also a writer. She's almost four years my senior, but she looks way too young to be 30.
I met her at Banapple in Ayala Triangle Gardens--the same place where I met Tweet Sering, the writer I'd long wished to meet in person, almost half a year ago. The air felt hot and heavy in this congested, concrete jungle that was once my playground. It's the city where Matt and I used to meet for our caffeine fix and that unknown thing that keeps couples and non-couples (and those in between) up all night.
I can't remember now how little effort it took to arrange that meeting, when, in all honestly, I'm the one who was always curious about seeing this girl in the flesh. Finally meeting the person who changed Matt forever was, for me, a turning point. I hadn't read a single article Stacy had written for that local fashion magazine where she worked, and I felt uneasy when I met her for the first and last time--all because I had envied her from a distance for as long as I can remember.Advertisements
