Disclaimer: I wasn’t going through a breakup when I decided to embark on an experience that would probably—hopefully—change my life for the better. I joined On Fire because I wanted to figure out how to make my relationships work…because of late, they have all turned out so wrong (well, at least the supposedly romantic ones).
On Fire is not your usual retreat, so don’t be quick to dismiss this post with “Ay, retreat lang pala, akala ko naman kung ano na.” If you’re going through a breakup or any form of heartbreak, and somebody advised you to go on retreat and you scoffed at them because you think it won’t help, well, trust me, the On Fire weekend will.

You’re at the Cosmo Bachelor Bash with the guy of your dreams. He looks somewhat fidgety. You suspect he’s checking out other ladies in the crowd. Yes, there are many of them there. He tells you he isn’t.
Being here, you convince him, is actually just like the night you attended FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in World Victory Party with him last July. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He agrees then kisses you on the cheek. “Isn’t he just the best boyfriend in the world,” you tell yourself.
Then the lights go out. Testosterone-overload about to blow. You position yourself as near as you can to the stage. You want to splash water on a shirtless Gerald Anderson using your water gun. You want to holler as Aljur Abrenica invades the ramp. You want to just lose yourself in the moment the minute all the 69 bare-chested bachelors break out from their cells.
Your boyfriend, meanwhile, sticks close to you. You’re touched and even miraculously able to spare a few seconds to reassure him that there’s nothing more to read about your behavior, your excitement, and the way you’re shrieking tonight. “I’m just having fun,” you tell him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He nods and flashes what looks to you like a half-hearted smile. But you let it go. The boys are just about set for their onslaught.
And out all Cosmo Bachelors come, their six-packs on a mission to electrify. The love of your life inches closer to the stage. Then as Gerald, Aljur, and the rest of the Centerfolds leap straight out of the pages to conquer your evening in the flesh, you find yourself disarmed of your water gun with nary a reason and a warning. Then you weep as you walk out of NBC Tent in a jiffy, leaving your boyfriend, who’s now blasting away at Gerald’s bod, behind.
