When Your Man Buys Property...
Posted on January 29, 2012 12:00AM

Charlie's face registered shock, pain, disappointment, and controlled anger.
"What?!" she squealed.
I took a sip of coffee like a man sipping scotch on the rocks for that much needed alcohol-induced bravery.
"He turned down the offer in Malaysia because they wanted him to leave in January," I explained. "And he can't."
"Six figures, V!" Charlie reasoned. "Six figures!"
"Well, I screamed the exact same thing," I said. "In the middle of sex, imagine that. He hoisted me up and made me sit straight on the bed."
"Baliw ba siya?"
"I asked the same thing din," I said with a laugh. "Same wavelength nga tayo." -
Things Don't Go According To Plan
Posted on January 28, 2012 12:00AM

"What about our plans, V?" Charlie started. "I thought we'd be living in Malaysia by 2012? What happened to Logan's job offer in Malaysia?"
It was the topic I'd been sidestepping for some time. Earlier in 2011, during one of our once-in-a-blue-moon drinking sessions with Logan at Shangri-La, the three of us made plans to relocate to Malaysia, where Charlie's boyfriend lives. It was the perfect plan wherein Logan served as our "ace." He would accept the six-figure job offer from one of the leading IT companies there, while Charlie and I would pack our bags and take our chances in a foreign land with no actual job offers under our belts.
"We can make it anywhere!" Charlie and I would say in unison every time Logan would give us a doubtful face. "We're gooooood." -
Choosing Wisely
Posted on January 27, 2012 12:00AM

"Oh my God! You turned down that offer? What the f*ck is wrong with you?!"
This was Charlie's reaction upon learning that I signed with the the international publishing company as their new managing editor...thus ditching the offer of the huge online company offering me a post in a women's lifestyle website.
Charlie snorted in disappointment as she took her tray from the counter and walked with me toward the less crowded area of McDonald's at the corner of Rizal Drive in Bonifacio Global City.
We sat down and attacked the fries. "There's no writing involved, Charlie. What they wanted me to do was simply follow up on articles from contributors, choose from their stock photos, edit a bit, and that's it," I ranted, munching on a fry. "26 na tayo, 'day. I believe we're in the position to sidestep stepping stones." -
Weighing My Options
Posted on January 23, 2012 12:00AM

The moment I opened my mouth during my second interview, they knew I'm a Cosmo girl, through and through.
They told me I was the perfect candidate for the position in a website about the lifestyle of Filipino women. It was a dream position for me, but there's a catch: There would be no writing involved. My main task would be to scout for features (ready-made articles) for the website. That was it.
I found it too...simple. -
Interviews And Catch-Up Lunches
Posted on January 21, 2012 12:00AM

It was something I've never done before--do two interviews in the span of two hours for two companies based in two buildings right across each other. If you think about it, what happened to me that day was like something from a recent Hollywood movie where the leading lady had to run from one office to another for job interviews that could very well define her future.
I arrived in Bonifacio Global City wearing the best corporate attire I could find in my wardrobe (I badly need new ones). The first interview was with the international publishing company at an office near Burgos Circle. I got there on time, went through the interview, and was finally offered a dream job: managing editor of a travel and lifestyle magazine.
