  • "Those Who Have Passions, We Are The Lucky Ones"

I'm not a hardcore Neil Gaiman fan. In fact, except for the more popular graphic novels and comic books he's created, I'm largely unfamiliar with his work. Still, one of my favorite characters created by Neil Gaiman is definitely Dream, the embodiment of inspiration and wonder found in the pages of his Sandman series.

During Cosmo's interview with the famed writer, our Features Editor, Sam Echavez, asked him about his thoughts on pursuing our passions. His reply: "I'd tell everybody to pursue your passion. Those who have passions, we are the lucky ones. If you like painting, for God's sake, paint. If you like writing, write."

  • The Things I Learned From "The Devil Wears Prada"

By The Devil Wears Prada (2006) I mean the movie, which I love more than the book (and this is not usually the case for film adaptations of novels that I like). And by 'things I learned' I don't mean how to be a Miranda Priestly. There are several reasons I can watch this movie over and over without getting tired of it, and even quote some of the lines (which, I discovered last year, some people are also fond of doing).

One of them is Meryl Streep’s amazing portrayal of “devil incarnate” Miranda Priestly. Then there’s Anne Hathaway’s Andrea (Andy) Sachs, with whom I can truly sympathize. Of course, I also love all the outfits she wore, post-makeover. In fact, one of my favorite scenes is that quick sequence showing her in various outfits right after Nigel (Stanley Tucci) gave her access to The Runway Closet.

  • A Fresh Start
    Posted on February 25, 2010 12:00AM

Nizzi02.jpgWhen my editor asked me to submit a blog for Cosmo, that's only when it hit me: I have been an avid reader of the magazine ever since, as I'm sure most of you are. The proof: my room has a library of the glossies I’ve collected over the years. I've seen all the fabulous women who graced the cover, soaked in all the fashion and beauty tips it dished, and allowed the love advice it gave to influence my life one way or the other. And now, I can't believe I'm actually working for the title.

  • Always A Bridesmaid...
    Posted on February 21, 2010 06:00PM

    happy.jpg

...And I’m okay not to be the bride—for now at least. Last year, I was a bridesmaid and a secondary sponsor in two of my friends’ weddings. And this year, I was the maid of honor at another friend’s wedding; I will be a bridesmaid again later this year. It has become a twice a year pattern.

I guess it’s quite expected at my age that a lot of my friends are starting to tie the knot, and it seems there’s that pressure to follow suit. After all, I will be hitting 30 next year, and to many, that means I’m about to reach the finish line. Will I be the next to get married? (I did win the garter game at the last wedding, hehe!) Maybe, maybe not--who knows!

  • My Top 9 Life Lessons For 2009
    Posted on January 2, 2010 12:00PM

The past year was a soap opera for me—anyone who knows what I’ve been through could attest to that. 2009 began with forecasts that it would be my best year ever. And while a lot of great things happened that year, I’m not sure I can really call it my best, since it was riddled with heartbreaks, betrayals, and loads of disappointments, too. But what can we do? That’s how life goes; it can’t always be perfect, can it? But I do not regret anything, for with everything that happened to me that year, I took with it valuable lessons I’ll bring with me in 2010 and for the rest of my life.

Since there are far too many of them, I picked the nine most significant lessons, or at least those that seem to recur for some reason—maybe because I haven’t learned them enough the first time so I had to go through them again. Here goes.
