It took me less than five minutes to sell the idea for this year's April Fools' Day prank to him--unlike last year, when it took me seven days to finally convince him to change his relationship status from "In a Relationship" to "Single."

I remember him telling me how stupid the idea was, and that it wouldn't work. But it did! It worked so well that my aunt in the US (the one who actually offered to be a ninang at our wedding in the, ahem, very near future) called my mother twice to ask if Logan and I really broke up. Yes, that prank worked so well that the thread got more than 30 comments, and more when we finally typed "Happy April Fools'!"

This year, I told Logan to change his relationship status from "In a Relationship" to "Engaged."

"Ayan," I said. "The fun begins."

  • The Things We Give Up

So here we are, Logan and I. For the longest time, it has been this way: Logan and I. And it's as it should be since, well, this is what I wanted from the start, right?

Sometimes, when I think back on how exactly I got to this part they call "couple bliss," I feel completely different from who I used to be. I started out so lost, so destructive, and so dysfunctional. I went from that "lost" phase we all go through after college (and this could stretch from five months to five years, depending on how you decide to live your life), to that independent and rebellious stage, that blind pursuit of passion, that best friend drama, that fateful meeting with Logan in cyberspace, and everything that happened in between.

Logan is chopping the basil to smithereens, and the strong scent of herbs permeates the condo, overpowering the oily smell of the Parmesan-loaded chicken breasts. The condo smells great and homey. It smells of domestication, the smell I find myself wanting to run away from for as long as I can...

Two years and counting in a happy relationship, and still I ask myself, "What led me here?"

  • How Did I Get Here?
    Posted on April 7, 2012 12:00AM

    How_Did_I_Get_Here_MAIN.jpg

A few days after the wedding, I sat resting on the new couch we bought at some store in SM Megamall a few weeks back, slowly sipping red wine from a glass in my right hand while watching Logan prepare pesto pasta with Parmesan chicken for dinner.

Logan's not a chef. He doesn't have the patience to measure key ingredients precisely, leaving his dishes either salty or bland. But the guy cooks with herbs, and you know what they say: When someone cooks with herbs, he knows what he's doing. With Logan, well...almost.

At this moment, he's cracking eggs against a small glass bowl we bought at SM Megamall. I see him throw the egg shells down the sink, not minding the small trash bin I placed beside it. Men are kind of barbaric, aren't they?

The pasta is almost cooked. Since Logan doesn't have the multitasking ability most chefs and all women have, I see him panic a bit, not sure what to do first--fry the chicken or check on the pasta? I would help him, but since he's on kitchen duty today and he's trying really hard to impress me, well, just call me when it's dinnertime.

As I watch Logan make a mess in the small kitchen I like to keep immaculately clean and showroom-worthy, I ask myself, Now, how did I get here?

It's been, what, almost three years since Cosmo published the very first Bedroom Blog by Veronica entry back in 2009. Three years, huh? Though the stories I wrote are not limited to the years I spent writing this blog, three years is a big deal. This blog has been around even longer than my relationship with Logan or anyone else for that matter (romantically, at least). And I'd like to think it's lasted longer than my infatuation with Matt. I daresay Bedroom Blog by Veronica is my longest affair to date.

    To be continued...

I didn't tell Logan about the movie. Of course, I didn't! As much as I wanted to obsess over it, I didn't have anyone to talk to about it; not when everyone's busy with their careers.

I forgot about the movie for a while, focused on work, and downloaded movies and series again. Logan and I went on weekly dates and tried to make the best of the weekends we usually spent together when we're not required to go anywhere.

One night, when I was still not in the mood to write, I browsed through some friends' pages on Facebook to pass the time. I clicked on a movie trailer video on a friend's wall. I fell madly in love with it, and I couldn't wait to see it on the big screen. A few seconds before the trailer ended, the lead character said her partner's name out loud: "I love you ______. I just don't want you anymore.”

That was Matt's real name. Again.

    Argh!!!
