Ana's Insecurities Part 1
Posted on April 11, 2010 12:00AM
Six months into their relationship, Ana's insecurities finally showed. And since I was Sam's closest female friend, she went to me with her weight issues. My evil brain told me: "She's making you her BFF, para magkaroon ka ng guilty feelings. Kasi kapag friends na kayo, hindi mo na magagawang agawin si Sam sa kanya."
Wait lang. Who the hell said I'd steal Sam from her? Oh wait, I forgot that was my evil brain talking.

Tipping The Scales

This must be the nth entry you've read about weight on this site, but I feel that I should write one too, since I used to be fat. And I don't mean that in an I'm-actually-a-size-six-but-everyday-feels-like-a-fat-day kind of way. At one point in my life, I was two pounds shy of the two hundred-pound mark. At 5'5", my torso looked a lot like a tree trunk.
Being obese pretty much caught me unawares. The summer before I started high school, our entire family went to the States for a month, then my dad and I toured Europe for another month. I remember weighing myself before I left the Philippines, and I weighed 140 lbs. I was about 13 at that time, so you can say that I've always been pretty heavy.
That vacation felt like one big binge as I made sure to try all the different kinds of food from the different European countries. I weighed 180 lbs. by the time I got back to the Philippines. You'd think I'd be shocked, but I took it all in stride. I remember thinking that there are a lot of people who are bigger than I am, so I can still afford to indulge. Besides, I was in an all-girls school, so I never really felt the need to be conscious about my weight.

Seven Easy Ways To Stay Slim
Posted on October 19, 2009 06:00PM
No pressure: Find an easy, breezy food and fitness combo that works for you.
Ever since that year I’d uncannily gained 15 extra pounds (it took a year to shed them), I thought I’d completely resolved my body issues and have learned to be happy with what I weighed. Because when I did get fat, only then did I realize I was thin before after all.
Except that from time to time, I still get bothered by superficial concerns like how my belly spills over my jeans, or how my already chubby cheeks have become more pronounced in the last few years.
I understand with women, it’s a constant struggle to accept and appreciate—or even love—what we were born with, all the physiological facets and contours that make each form unique.
I’ve picked up some strategies throughout the years to help combat the body blahs, whether it’s that puson that makes you look pregnant, or those stubborn five pounds that seem more noticeable during that time of the month. I’ve learned to turn to them whenever I need a nudge or just overall accept the present and, as much as I would like to look (and weigh) like my 22-year-old self, my priority these days should be to be healthy and enjoy life and its multitude of culinary delights. And if you’re lazy like me, scanning—and following—these tips should be a piece of cake. -
How I Lose Weight Without Starving Myself
Posted on September 3, 2009 12:00AM

I can never see myself going on a perpetual diet--eating mostly greens; avoiding carbs, chocolates, chips, and cakes; and even not eating beyond 6 or 7PM. Sure, I'd eat less for dinner. But I love food too much! Starving myself just to fit in my clothes perfectly will never be an option for me. You wear the clothes anyway, not the other way around, right?
