Who's That Girl?
Posted on November 5, 2011 12:00AM
We're finally here.
"So, we finally meet," Stacy started.
"Yeah," I replied. "We're finally here."
Stacy smiled. "I've always been curious about you."
"Shouldn't I be the one telling you that?" I said as I smiled back.
She laughed. "Really? You're curious about me?"
"Yes," I answered. "You were Matt's precious little thing."
The smile that lit her face suddenly disappeared. She straightened her back, flipped her hair, and looked almost ready to strike. Our coffee and cake arrived and we diverted all our attention to the hot brew in front of us.- The Girl Who Changed Matt Forever

Stacy is also a writer. She's almost four years my senior, but she looks way too young to be 30.
I met her at Banapple in Ayala Triangle Gardens--the same place where I met Tweet Sering, the writer I'd long wished to meet in person, almost half a year ago. The air felt hot and heavy in this congested, concrete jungle that was once my playground. It's the city where Matt and I used to meet for our caffeine fix and that unknown thing that keeps couples and non-couples (and those in between) up all night.
I can't remember now how little effort it took to arrange that meeting, when, in all honestly, I'm the one who was always curious about seeing this girl in the flesh. Finally meeting the person who changed Matt forever was, for me, a turning point. I hadn't read a single article Stacy had written for that local fashion magazine where she worked, and I felt uneasy when I met her for the first and last time--all because I had envied her from a distance for as long as I can remember.- The Start Of An End

I thought we were all okay. And since I got tired of partying and started rallying myself at work, I decided to go home early to work on some sideline projects. Clad in my usual shirt and shorts ensemble, Sam and Ana would find me sprawled on the couch, furiously typing on my laptop with chips and soda on the side. One evening, Ana came by and brought dinner.

"You're home early," Sam said.
"Everyone has a date," I answered as I kicked my shoes, dropped my bag, and walked to the kitchenette for a glass of wine.
"And you don't?" Sam teased.
"Just this glass," I replied.
Sam was home alone because Ana had this retreat to go to. I guess it was my chance to talk to him about Ana's demand/request.

Our office in Quezon City relocated to a bigger corporate office in Ortigas--right in the heart of the busy concrete jungle. Our new office has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that offer a fantastic view of the San Miguel compound, SM Megamall, and Lourdes School of Mandaluyong. My new work area has soft yellow lights that helped me mellow down my burning desire to put chili flakes in Ana’s morning coffee, just to see if she’ll turn the shade of fried bacon.
But Sam’s icky in-love face kept me from doing anything murderous. - The Girl Who Changed Matt Forever
