Under The Stars Part 1
Posted on August 8, 2010 12:00AM

As if getting lost and stuck weren't enough to shake my composure, I began to think that I might be Lady Fate's flavor of the month. A week later, I got cornered.
"A black-tie party?" I asked.
"Yeah," Lily answered. "It's a fundraiser for our college org. Come ha, it will be fun. Bring a date. Bring Logan."
"Gee, Lily, I don't know."

Lost And Found
Posted on August 4, 2010 12:00AM

I tried my best to forget about Matt; like I did a hundred times since what happened three years ago. Soon, I bounced back to my new pattern: meeting Logan after work for dinner, conversation, and ice cream. Everything felt good again. I felt in control again...until the day Ms. O invited Logan and I to a media tour of Chinatown.
We arrived early at the meeting place in SM Mall of Asia. I was dressed accordingly and was prepared for a long day ahead. But what I wasn't prepared for was seeing Matt in the same coffee shop. My shocked face must have been a dead giveaway. Matt was about to stand up and probably greet me and my "plus one," but he must have felt the negative vibe radiating through every pore in my body and got the hint that I had no plans of exchanging introductions that morning. Or ever. So he sat back down as Logan and I went to grab some coffee.

Old Patterns
Posted on August 1, 2010 12:00AM

I continued to work with Matt for an entire week. We edited the script he wrote through e-mail because I refused—with all my might—to converse with him through chat. I didn't want to fall into an old pattern. It took me years to get him out of my system. So when a chat invitation popped up on my browser, followed by a request to be added to my contacts list, I quickly ignored it and then I blocked him.
Mercifully, he didn't ask me why. We worked through e-mail as two professionals in the same industry, while I managed to keep myself from asking the many questions I had wanted to ask since he broke my heart and my ego years ago.

Guess Who's Back
Posted on July 28, 2010 12:00AM

I had almost forgotten that he had been looking for me at the event. If only I remembered, it wouldn't have come as so much of a shock to see him sitting in the lobby when I waltzed into the large reception area to fetch the freelance writer my boss hired for a project.
He was wearing the same trademark outfit that suited him well: a semi-fit dark blue sweater (even in the blistering heat of the midday sun, no less), jeans, and Nike sneakers. He was wearing his hair a bit shorter than I remembered but his eyes looked the same to me.
"Hi, Veronica," he said
There they were—the two words that should have sent me packing. But I was stuck there. The receptionist was looking at me strangely when it took me a while to reply.
"Hi, Matt," I said.

It's A Small World After All
Posted on July 14, 2010 12:00AM

Logan and I arrived at the venue sweaty and out of breath. Despite living in Quezon City, it was only then that I realized that I hardly go to SM North EDSA. And because our jobs make Logan and I regulars in the malls around Ortigas, we both had a hard time locating the venue. We were almost an hour late, and we found Lily, in all her pink and purple glory, silently fuming near the event's registration table. I was lining up a few of my tried-and-tested excuses when she saw Logan behind me. Her jaw dropped and her face contorted in sheer disbelief.
