The Intimacy We Finally Share
Posted on November 7, 2009 12:00AM
Intimacy.
The dictionary tells us that it refers to "the feeling of being in a close personal association and belonging together.” In human relationships, the level of intimacy varies from couple to couple, and sometimes, intimacy can sidestep formalities...blurring the fine, fine line between lust and love.
In my case, intimacy is a mixture of unrefined emotions—infatuation, fear, longing, confusion, lust, caring, love(?)—that came thundering down on that rainy Friday night in Paranaque.

You Are Pathetic, Matt
Posted on November 6, 2009 12:00AM
“I think you’re pathetic.”
These were the first few words that came out of my mouth. Matt and I were in his living room, staring at each other over glasses of wine; the rain drops make a luminous pattern on the wall-to-ceiling windows facing the airport.
“You keep telling people that you’re not afraid to die but the truth is that you’re really scared,” I continued. “I don’t know what exactly happened to you in the past, but hey, people get hurt. Hindi lang ikaw."

First Time In Matt's Pad
Posted on November 2, 2009 12:00AM
“So you didn’t go to work today?” I asked.
After Barcino, he invited me to his place in Paranaque—a studio-type condo unit on the 12th floor with a wide view of the airport. After slaving away in the office for months and working seven days a week, he finally snagged his own place in the better part of the city.
“I was feeling restless this morning,” he said opening a bottle of red wine and filling two glasses. “I planned to go to Tagaytay kanina, but the rain got in the way.”

Too Many Questions
Posted on November 1, 2009 12:00AM
“What’s wrong, Veronica?”
“Oh, nothing,” I said. “The wine’s getting to me I guess.”
“Well, I think you’ve had enough,” Matt said as he reached over and took my glass. “Let’s have dinner. What will you have?”
We were at Barcino, Matt and I, enjoying a bottle of red wine and a plate of antipasti. It was Friday again--two full weeks since I left Sam in his condo, sipping champagne.

Losing And Finding Myself...
Posted on August 17, 2009 12:00AM
One week later, we went out again, this time to play bowling somewhere in the South. It was raining again. Why does it always rain whenever we meet?
The last time I bowled, I was still missing my two front teeth. I kept getting a gutter ball that contributed much to his amusement. I would have thrown a ball at his face, if only the damn thing wasn’t 12lbs heavy. My irritation quickly subsided when I saw how his face lit up with each turn. This was his turf, I thought. So I let him teach me how to play.
