Guess Who's Back
Posted on July 28, 2010 12:00AM

I had almost forgotten that he had been looking for me at the event. If only I remembered, it wouldn't have come as so much of a shock to see him sitting in the lobby when I waltzed into the large reception area to fetch the freelance writer my boss hired for a project.
He was wearing the same trademark outfit that suited him well: a semi-fit dark blue sweater (even in the blistering heat of the midday sun, no less), jeans, and Nike sneakers. He was wearing his hair a bit shorter than I remembered but his eyes looked the same to me.
"Hi, Veronica," he said
There they were—the two words that should have sent me packing. But I was stuck there. The receptionist was looking at me strangely when it took me a while to reply.
"Hi, Matt," I said.

Best Friends And Changed Men (Part 2)
Posted on July 18, 2010 12:00AM

And then there's Gail, our barkada's sexy and hot mama, who was parading her new killer shoes that night in Metrowalk. Her four-year relationship with Dustin was a violation of Article 1 in my Dating Code: Do not fall in love with friends.

Best Friends And Changed Men (Part 1)
Posted on July 17, 2010 12:00AM

When Lily asked us about our plans after the event, I felt a little guilty not telling her about the inuman in Metrowalk.
"I need to go na kasi," Lily said as she hurriedly secured the gift certificates Ms. O gave us earlier. "I have to meet this guy at Starbucks in TriNoma." And when my facial expression murderously read "Dev," Lily told Logan and me that it was a blind date her officemate Mench set her up with.
As Logan and I made our way back to his car, I wanted to ask him if he knew about Lily's ex-boyfriend Dev, who ripped off his cousin. But from the calm look on Logan's face, he probably knew nothing about Lily's latest disaster.
We arrived at this bar in Metrowalk a few minutes before 9 o'clock in the evening and my mini high school reunion was already in full swing. Everyone was there.

"I'd Like To Fall In Love By Accident"
Posted on July 10, 2010 12:00AM

And so everyone was hooking up except for me. As much as I was enjoying my single status (read: no boyfriend, no problem), a part of me wasn't okay with that thought. I started to feel that I was reduced to being the leftover and durog cookie that nobody wanted, or the heavily bruised mango not even your mother would buy. It started shattering my ego that was originally the size of China.

Everyone's Hooking Up, Except For Me
Posted on July 7, 2010 12:00AM

When I visited Franco at his new office, I was surprised to hear that he had found a steady date—a geeky girl who seemed to be completely immune to all the chapters in his playbook. Chi was also in a happy relationship. Even Lily and Charlie had dated a guy or two. But of all the hookups that happened in the year that had passed, it was Nino's engagement that took the cake. Literally.
When I found out that he was engaged, I dropped by his new restaurant and gave him a cake with the words "Akalain mong may pag-asa ka pa pala." He made me Sam's three-cheese omelet and just when we both thought I would cry a river, I didn't. I just felt a tinge of sadness and then serenity. We ate in silence.
And so it seems that everyone's hooking up, except for me.
