Modern Women Want Different Things
Posted on February 3, 2012 12:00AM

"I'm not saying I don't want it," I corrected Charlie. "I'm just saying that I don't want it...yet. Am I making sense?"
"No."
I sighed.
"Okay, " I continued. "Here's the way I see it. That property--that's Logan's, not mine. Sure, when I become his wife, magiging sa akin din 'yun by law but...I want to have my own property, something that I bought with my own money. And besides, Logan's property is on the 'Upper East Side.'"
"Ano?" -
When You Let A Friend Be
Posted on January 22, 2012 12:00AM

The last time Nicia talked about Ken, she told us via chat that he had been trying to reach her since she left--at least through Facebook and Skype, since Ken really couldn't just jump on the next plane to New Zealand.
I remember that chat session. It was a week after I got back from Hong Kong. I remember Nicia telling me the play-by-play of how Ken logs in every single day so he can talk to her online. Often, our friend would simply "hide" in Yahoo! Messenger or log out of Facebook chat. But, Ken insisted that Nicia just talk to him and be done with it.
I remember telling her: "Matanda ka na, you know what you're doing. I mean, if you want to follow through and give him another chance, it's your life." -
Season 6 Finale: Different Kinds Of Love
Posted on December 26, 2011 12:00AM

I realized that the reason I couldn't feel Logan under my skin is that my love for him is different. My love for him is unlike my love for Matt. Or for Sam. -
Girls' Night In
Posted on December 23, 2011 12:00AM

One day simply wasn't enough.
The three of us met again the following weekend for an overnight stay at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel. Unlike old times, it was so much easier to sneak in food and alcoholic beverages today. And unlike old times, we were able to coax a heartbroken Nicia to join us for a round of lemon shots.
It seemed that nothing had changed. Two weeks after we patched things up, Nicia resumed her roller coaster ride of emotional play-by-play about her recent breakup. Nothing had changed. She still ranted. I still listened. Gail still cried. And just the same, I stuck to my guns: Leave the guy.
"I just don't see the point of patronizing a habitual cheater," I said before downing a shot of premium vodka and sucking on a lemon slice. I forgot to take sugar.
"'Wag ka na kasing pumunta sa New Zealand," Gail said with a hiccup, pouring us another shot of vodka.
"Alam mo bang na-terminate siya sa work niya sa hospital?" Nicia said, as if she didn't hear me. "Kasi 'di ba nagkaroon siya ng kaso doon? Kaya nga siya malapit dun sa Cath na 'yun kasi may tito 'yung babae na mataas 'yung position doon, e."
Clearly, the three of us were talking in different wavelengths. So what's a girl to do? I indulged the heartbroken. -
Tired Of The Party Scene
Posted on December 2, 2011 10:00AM

"Charlie, have you ever felt na parang nakakasawa na 'yung ganito?"
I still didn't answer her question. She didn't seem to mind.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"'Eto. This. 'Yung buhay na parang pupunta ka dito sa bar with your friends to meet cute guys, and exchange numbers, and maybe hit it off a month later. 'Yung ganyan (I point to the girls who are dancing wildly) and ganyan (I point to the cute guys nearby)."
Charlie looked around the place. She didn't seem to get my point.
"Don't get me wrong," I continued. "I love your company; it's just that this place feels...hindi ko alam kung paano i-describe, e, pero para bang feel ko ang tanda ko na para sa ganito."
