  • Baggage-Free 2010, Yes? (A New Year's Post)
    Posted on January 31, 2010 08:00PM

When the clock struck 12 last January 1, 2010, a single thought popped in my head: Exactly a year ago, I was ringing in 2009 with my ex-boyfriend. We had just reconciled (for the nth time, FYI), and who would’ve thought that would be our last New Year's together?

Looking back, I don't know why I started the New Year with that memory. Maybe because it no longer mattered? Maybe because I have moved on?

  • My Top 9 Life Lessons For 2009
    Posted on January 2, 2010 12:00PM

The past year was a soap opera for me—anyone who knows what I’ve been through could attest to that. 2009 began with forecasts that it would be my best year ever. And while a lot of great things happened that year, I’m not sure I can really call it my best, since it was riddled with heartbreaks, betrayals, and loads of disappointments, too. But what can we do? That’s how life goes; it can’t always be perfect, can it? But I do not regret anything, for with everything that happened to me that year, I took with it valuable lessons I’ll bring with me in 2010 and for the rest of my life.

Since there are far too many of them, I picked the nine most significant lessons, or at least those that seem to recur for some reason—maybe because I haven’t learned them enough the first time so I had to go through them again. Here goes.

  • No Boyfriend Since Birth--Who Cares When You've Got Friends?
    Posted on December 26, 2009 12:25PM

A year has passed and I'm still single.

Despite my years in Cosmo, I have to say that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing when it comes to relationships. Honestly. So even if it doesn't really bother me, I felt I had to find out why I've remained single despite all the dates I've been in.

I'm really not the type of guy who thinks he knows everything, so I sought advice from the people whom I think know better when it comes to matters of the heart. When I got the chance to go to Singapore recently, I got in touch with one of my favorite friends and author of Summit Books' chick lit No Boyfriend Since Birth for some dating advice.

  • To All The Single Ladies!
    Posted on October 31, 2009 06:00PM

I have a confession to make. Like some of you, I've NEVER been in a relationship. Yup, as difficult as it may sound, I've been a bachelor since birth--mostly by choice. But as Cosmo reaches its 150th issue, I have to admit that, like you, I've learned a whole lot about how to be Fun and Fearless within the last five years.

  • Going Through A Breakup? Here's A Big Step Toward Healing
    Posted on October 4, 2009 12:00AM

Disclaimer: I wasn’t going through a breakup when I decided to embark on an experience that would probably—hopefully—change my life for the better. I joined On Fire because I wanted to figure out how to make my relationships work…because of late, they have all turned out so wrong (well, at least the supposedly romantic ones).

On Fire is not your usual retreat, so don’t be quick to dismiss this post with “Ay, retreat lang pala, akala ko naman kung ano na.” If you’re going through a breakup or any form of heartbreak, and somebody advised you to go on retreat and you scoffed at them because you think it won’t help, well, trust me, the On Fire weekend will.
