The "Veronica Lodge Syndrome"
Posted on March 12, 2010 12:00AM

Finally, Sam and I finished putting wallpaper on the glass wall around my room. As the months passed, I started to learn a lot about this whole I-want-to-learn-how-to-be-independent thing or what’s it’s like to live with someone somewhere else. My parents would text me every now and ask how I’ve been doing, what I’ve been eating, is Sam gay, and if I’m wearing clean clothes, because they know I don’t do laundry at home. I haven’t changed, I guess. Three months after leaving home, I’m still stubborn and impossible.
A big chunk of my salary from the agency—my bread and butter—went to my half of the rent for the condo. The next big chunk went to my food and transportation allowance, phone bills, and personal necessities like soap, shampoo, conditioner, creams, lotion, etc. Sometimes, I would go to the grocery and buy some food to stock at the condo. Sam told me I need not do that because his place never ran out of food anyway, and the restaurant’s pantry was just a few blocks away if ever we run out of anything. But my pride got in the way, and I would still buy cereals, oatmeal, cookies, chips, and milk. -
Getting Inspired By REAL Fashion
Posted on October 30, 2009 01:45PM
Working in the magazine industry affords me the privilege of working with some of the most gorgeous people, whether they’re models or celebs. Every so often, I also get to meet some really talented people, too! When we shot the “I’m With The Band“ fashion editorial in September (photographed by Dr. Marlon Pecjo and styled by Sidney Yap), I got to meet some of hottest Pinoy bands in the music scene. And what do you know, they were super nice and fun to hang out with!

My favorite would have to be The Bloomfields, though. I saw them performing before in Eastwood and I couldn’t get over how cute they were in their Beatles-inspired outfits. At the shoot, I became a fan the moment they actually started singing while posing with our Amazonian models. The models had to look fierce but they had a hard time keeping smiles off their faces when these guys began serenading them with their own rendition of “Ale Nasa Langit Na Ba Ako?” Lahat kami kinilig! (Watch Cosmo.ph’s interview with the bands here.)
Before that, I was a guest interviewee at the SM Augustyle series (watch it here). I’m a big fan of department stores and I have been an SM customer since high school, when I discovered the thrill of shopping for cheap finds in SM Southmall. During one of the shows, I had a chat with model and former VJ Joey Mead (who hosted the series) about women’s obsession with “it” bags. For her birthday this year, she bought her very first designer bag in the Chanel boutique in Rodeo drive. I was quite surprised to learn this—it’s refreshing, actually. I would have expected her to have a collection already.
