Some of us can't live without a red lipstick in our lives, but there are still some Pinays who are hesitant about it. Of course, there's nothing wrong with pretty shades of pink or nude, but reds just give you an instant confidence boost, don't they?

Take it from these girls who tried wearing Maybelline Red Lipsticks for five days:

Name: Mara Gianina Tanchanco

Age: 21

Occupation: Freelance commercial model (I just recently started applying for a regular job)

1. Why don't you wear red lipsticks often?

I don't usually wear red lipsticks because I find that they draw too much attention to my lips, as opposed to toned down brown nudes, which are within my "lipstick comfort zone." I also have this notion in my head that there are only certain makeup looks that go with red lipsticks.

2. Were you hesitant to try them?

Very much so! It's something that I, as well as the people around me, am not accustomed to seeing myself wearing. They know that I'm more of a nude lipstick kind of girl.

3. What happened when you switched to reds?

[There was just some] hesitation a few moments before putting the red lipstick on and a few seconds after that I stare at myself in the mirror and try to get used to how it looks on me.

[My friends] actually liked how red looks on me! Some of my friends even borrowed my Maybelline Creamy Mattes Divine Wine lipstick because they were so impressed by its color payoff and finish, and they wanted to see how it would fare on them.

Wearing the red lipsticks made me feel more confident in doing the things that are part of my weekly routine. They made me feel like I stood out in castings, performed better in workshops, and looked my best at dinner with friends. Wearing red even empowered me to try new things/conquer fears such as hosting in front of a big audience!

4. Which shade or tube was your fave?

Definitely Maybelline Creamy Mattes Burgundy Blush! I love the vampy shade, as well as its matte but moisturizing finish.

5. Will you wear reds again?

Yes. This experience made me go out of my comfort zone and realize that life is too short for only one type of lipstick shade!

6. What do you want to tell other women who are too scared to wear red lipstick?

There is a spectrum of red lipsticks out there waiting to be tried by you! It's only a matter of finding the shade that matches your undertone, complements your features, and brings out the most confident version of yourself. Have fun experimenting! :)

1. Why don't you wear red lipsticks often?

I generally don't wear makeup on a daily basis and if I do, I usually stick to concealing any blemishes I might have and using my trusty lip balm and tint. I only wear red lipstick when it's a formal event or when I feel like adding a bit of color to my night out look.

2. Were you hesitant to try the red lipsticks?

Yes, I was a bit iffy because I haven't really found any good red lipsticks that go well with my skin tone. I also thought I'd look too striking with a red lip especially during the day time.

3. What happened when you switched to reds?

I found myself having a hard time applying it at first because red lipstick can be hard to work with since it's highly pigmented. However, after using the different lipsticks for five straight days, I figured out a little hack. I use my finger to blend the product properly then pat it with a paper towel to enhance its matte formula. I found that this technique gave the best results.

I surprisingly got a lot of compliments and the people around me immediately noticed something different especially because I don't usually wear lipstick.

It made me feel empowered by making me feel a little more put-together and adding that extra touch to my daily routine. When paired with the right clothes, it can make you look sophisticated and I believe that with sophistication comes confidence. I find that looking good equates to feeling good and when I feel good, I get more things done.

4. Which shade or tube was your fave?

My favorite is Maybelline Creamy Mattes Rich Ruby for the day time and Divine Wine for nights out because they really complemented my morena skin tone.

5. Will you wear reds again?

Yes, definitely. After wearing red lipstick for five days, I really saw what's flattering and what isn't. I think I've found my go-to red lipstick with Maybelline. I don't wear a full face of makeup most of the time and I think it's amazing how wearing even just red lipstick alone can already do so much.

6. What do you want to tell other women who are too scared to wear red lipstick?

It's just a matter of finding the perfect shade and formula for you and figuring out the perfect technique to applying it in a way that best complements your lips. Give it a try; you'll be surprised.

1. Why don't you wear red lipsticks often?

I don't wear red lippies too often because I have soft features and I felt as though the strong color would overpower the rest of my face. I never saw red as my color because I'm a pretty shy person, which is why I used to prefer subtle pink shades.

2. Were you hesitant to try the red lipsticks?

I was pretty hesitant. I wasn't sure that I could pull off different kinds of red lipstick every day. The only times I ever wore red lipstick were when I was wearing heavy makeup. So an everyday red lipstick look seemed difficult to do.

3. What happened when you switched to reds?

The first night I tried the red lipstick—Rich Ruby to be exact—was my very first interview for a professional internship. I tend to lose my words when my nerves get the best of me. When the day of my interview came, I was so worried that I'd make a mess of it because of my shy nature. You can imagine my surprise when I applied Rich Ruby and I felt an instant boost of assurance. I felt in control of what I had to do with a greater sense of self. Because of that, I was articulate enough to show my best qualities to the interviewer. I have Maybelline to thank for that!

The only struggle I had was choosing which red lipstick to put on next! I wanted to try all of them at once.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a very shy and private person. So when my friends saw me in a red lipstick, they were both surprised and proud of me! They saw it as a sign of confidence, and they were right. It did give me a boost of confidence!

4. Which shade or tube was your fave?

My favorite shade—which came to be my absolute favorite lipstick—was the Maybelline Lip Gradation RED2. It has a certain fuchsia quality to it so it's still my go-to pink but with a more memorable tint.

5. Will you wear reds again?

Definitely. I feel more in control of my life when I'm wearing something that represents strength and passion. It doesn't only improve my look, but it also gives me the confidence I need to take on just about anything life throws at me.

6. What do you want to tell other women who are too scared to wear red lipstick?

Some people call red the new black. Well, I say red is the new you. You can be whoever you want to be with something as bold, empowering, and passionate as red.
