Show of hands, Cosmo Girls: When was the last time you really took the time to pamper yourself and practice self-care? We can all agree that 2020 has been tough on everyone, and that certain indulgences took a backseat in favor of more pressing things, like safety and sanitation.
As the holiday break approaches, now would be a good time to start anew with your self-care habits! Think of it as the one good deed you can do for yourself before the year comes to a close. If you're not sure how or where to start—it's been ages, after all—you might want to try the following:
Stay offline during the holiday break.
You've likely spent the better part of the year getting work done from the confines of your room, which is an impressive feat! But while a WFH setup has its share of upsides, many of us became accustomed to working longer hours and, subsequently, prone to burnout. This year, more than any other, you owe it to yourself to take a break from the non-stop emails and video calls. A long break, in fact. Make an effort to bring back the work-life blending you vehemently lost some time ago.
Make time for movement.
Spending virtually every second indoors meant very little time to do other things, like, say, exercise. Maybe you've been neglecting your regular workouts, and that's totally understandable, but don't forget how great it feels to actually break a sweat and do something wholesome for your body. Use the holiday break to slowly incorporate exercise back into your daily routine. Have you seen all the available fitness equipment on Shopee and Lazada? Everything's on sale!
Shuteye is key.
Raise your hand if this one hits close to home: Being in a WFH setup perhaps allowed you to wake up later than usual, but your body clock is nowhere near where it once was. It's also likely that you've been going to bed much later because, well, at this point, Netflix is life. Start over before it's too late—watching movies and K-dramas are a form of self-care, but not when they keep you from getting enough sleep. We know you know what to do.
Self-care also means proper skincare!
Between your constant wearing of face masks, your lack of sleep, and the work- and pandemic-related stress you've been dealing with, it's worth acknowledging that your skin's health may not be at its best. To achieve that healthy, moisture-filled radiance by the time we welcome the new year, we recommend checking out Laneige's 2020 Holiday Collection!
