You know that moment when you see someone looking radiant and fresh, and you’re wondering, “How does she look like that at 7 a.m.?!” or “How early do you have to get up to look that amazing?”

ICYDK, prepping your skin isn't just done in the morning. You can do it in advance, so you don’t have to wake up earlier than usual or have more things to do when you’re rushing to get to the office. Want to have glowing skin too? Follow these steps:

Get enough sleep.

You’ve heard it time and again: Get your beauty sleep! There is nothing cheaper and more effective than catching the right amount of Zs every day. You can wake up to healthier-looking skin if you get at least seven hours of quality sleep every night, since that’s when the body improves blood flow to the skin to repair it. Sleeping less than the recommended number of hours can cause the body to increase the levels of cortisol, aka the stress hormone in the body, which can lead to red, puffy, and inflamed skin.

Skip the hot shower.

At the end of a tiring day, a long, hot, and relaxing shower beckons. But before you belt out your go-to shower song, know that long hot showers actually strip moisture off your skin, which can lead to dryness. Go for cold showers instead to help keep your skin’s moisture. Cold showers also help in decreasing signs of redness and puffiness and in reducing the size of your pores by constricting the surrounding blood vessels in your skin.

Have a consistent skincare routine.

You can’t expect your skin to take care of itself; you need to give it the TLC it needs. You don’t have to do anything elaborate; just stick to something you can do every day! The basics can be enough: Wash your face with a non-drying cleanser then apply a gentle toner. Put on a light and non-greasy moisturizer to achieve a softer, smoother, and more dewy-looking skin. And don’t forget to shield your skin from harmful UV rays with sunscreen that comes with SPF to help avoid skin dullness and premature skin aging.

Stay away from junk food.

Replace junk food and sugary snacks with fruits and vegetables, which contain antioxidants that help fight skin damage caused by free radicals. Betacarotene found in carrots and sweet potatoes, lycopene found in tomatoes, and lutein found in spinach and papaya are powerful antioxidants that can protect healthy skin cells from further damage. Eating rich sources of healthy fats (like avocado and salmon) is also an excellent way to maintain healthy-looking skin.

Don’t forget your Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is known to help boost the body’s immunity against colds and flu. Moreover, as an antioxidant, it helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. It also plays a crucial role in the formation of healthy collagen in the body, which is an essential element in keeping the skin’s elasticity and firmness. Since the body does not produce Vitamin C naturally, it is important to get it through nutritious food and Vitamin C supplements like Ascorbic Acid POTEN-CEE.

If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
