Pimples have no mercy on you or your skin. They just suddenly make an appearance at the worst times, like the night before a hot date, a client presentation, or your friend’s wedding (or your own).

If there’s one thing you need to know about how to treat your skin concerns, it’s that prevention is key. In this case, even if you don’t see any signs of a potential breakout, it’s still best to practice a routine that addresses your acne-prone skin:

1. Remove your makeup at the end of the day.

With the right products, it’s not hard—and it doesn’t take long—to remove your makeup thoroughly at the end of the day. It’s crucial you do this (and never skip it!) to prevent your skin from becoming irritated and your pores from clogging. Use a hypoallergenic makeup remover like the Céleteque Hydration Make-up Remover Cleansing Facial Wipes. It can gently clear away your makeup and other dirt that settled on your face during the day.

2. Slough off dead skin cells.

Get rid of dead skin cells, dirt, and sweat trapped in your pores with a water-based deep cleanser like Céleteque Acne Solutions Acne Cleansing Gel, which can help clear your clogged pores and decrease comedones that cause acne breakouts. If you need a gentle exfoliant, try Céleteque Hydration Gentle Exfoliating Facial Wash, which has microbeads that help scrub away dead skin cells without damaging the skin’s surface and reveal brighter and smoother skin.

3. Use a toner to restore your skin’s barrier.

After all that cleaning and scrubbing, help restore moisture in your skin's barrier. Recondition with the Céleteque Hydration Alcohol-Free Toner if you have normal or dry skin, or the Céleteque Acne Solutions Oil Control Toner if you have oily or combination skin.

4. Treat pimples with time-tested solutions.

If your pimples are reddened or inflamed, then it's best to use a spot corrector. Céleteque's holy grail product, the Céleteque Acne Solutions Acne Spot Corrector Gel, won in this year’s Cosmo Beauty Awards for Best Acne Treatment, so you know it means business in slaying the acne away.

5. Layer on moisturizer.

Yes, you absolutely need to wear moisturizer even if you have oily skin. In fact, wearing it can help balance out your skin's oil production, instead of making it worse. A lightweight water-based moisturizer can help neutralize excess sebum production and keep your skin looking supple and healthy.

6. Choose to wear lightweight makeup.

Always covering your face with makeup doesn’t allow your skin to breathe. Consider using light coverage makeup and having no-makeup days instead, and your skin will thank you. Another thing: Instead of reaching for your go-to concealer when a pimple shows up, try Céleteque Acne Solutions Acne-Clearing Concealer, a spiffy little pen that diminishes and conceals those mild to angry-red zits.
