Dealing with zits is tough, but it’s actually only half the battle. Once you’ve gotten rid of those pesky blemishes, healing and fading the scars left behind feel like yet another challenge.

Pitted or ice pick scars can only be treated with professional procedures like lasers or microneedling, but dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation can be healed with effective topical formulas.

Here’s a skincare routine that, apart from helping fade acne scars, helps manage sebum production and keep breakouts at bay.

1. Remove pore-clogging makeup.

Before going to bed, begin your skincare routine by removing all traces of makeup, dirt, and sebum. Use oil-free makeup remover or micellar water to help break down makeup and oil.

2. Follow up with a gentle cleanser.

The Silka Papaya Soap was recently awarded Best Body Soap by the Cosmo Beauty Awards 2019. It's a gentle cleanser that gets rid of all the impurities without drying out your skin. This brightening bar contains papaya enzymes that slough off dead skin and promote cellular turnover, making it ideal for healing damaged, scarred areas.

It contains Vitamin E and Provitamin B5, which help soften skin and protect it from the harmful effects of pollution and stress. VitaRich Actives also leave your skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

You can also try out the Silka Papaya Facial Cleanser. It's formulated with beta hydroxy acid, which speeds up skin renewal and refines pores. This product is just the thing for dark spots, too—it's enriched with papaya extract and Vitamin B3 (niacinamide), both of which help even out the skin tone.

3. Don't skip on toner.

Toning is an important step in all skincare routines as it helps restore the skin’s pH balance and control sebum levels. Go for a formula that’s chockfull of natural botanicals, which help reduce inflammation and refine the skin’s texture.

4. Slough off dead skin.

Exfoliating once a week helps keep the pores free of acne-triggering dead skin, dirt, and debris. Use a scrub infused with salicylic acid or glycolic acid, which help fade dark spots and unclog pores.

5. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Believe it or not, dehydrated skin can produce more oil. The trick is to choose an oil-free moisturizer that will hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try a lightweight gel moisturizer that contains humectants such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid.

Sticking to a regular skincare regimen is key to helping you achieve clearer and smoother skin. An effective routine is anchored on a good cleanser, so make sure to always stock up on Silka products. Formulated with natural exfoliants and skin-repairing vitamins, Silka Papaya Soap and Silka Papaya Facial Cleanser are your allies for ultimately winning the battle against acne and the scars it leaves behind.
