You probably don’t need any introduction to cleansing and toning, but do you also know how to exfoliate the face? Knowing how to exfoliate the skin can help get rid of blackheads and whiteheads, and when these layers are gone, you’ll be left with smooth, glowing skin. If you’re ready to include it in your routine, make sure that you’re doing it properly and not damaging your complexion. Read on:

What is exfoliating anyway?

Exfoliation is the process of removing old or dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the skin. While our skin regularly sheds these dead skin cells every 30 days or so, there are some instances when they don’t completely come off. This then results in a complexion that is clogged and patchy. Regular exfoliation helps prevent this from happening.

How often should you exfoliate your face?

Experts agree that three times a week should be enough. Individuals with very sensitive skin can opt for once or twice every seven days. Before you get tempted to do more, know that over-exfoliation can damage the skin barrier by creating tiny cracks that could, in turn, lead to inflammation or skin dehydration.

What’s the proper way to exfoliate the face?

Just because you’ve noticed that the scouring pad in your kitchen sponge does a great job at buffing out stubborn dirt, it doesn’t mean that your plan of attack should be to find an exfoliating product that offers abrasion.

There are two ways to exfoliate, physical (aka mechanical) and chemical exfoliation. When exfoliating mechanically, you make small circular motions with a gentle scrub or with an exfoliating tool. Chemical exfoliation, on the other hand, is simply accomplished with a good cotton pad and a skincare product loaded with actives.

What are some of the exfoliating products for the face?

If you're new to exfoliation, remember that no product guarantees the smooth and clear complexion of your dreams, unless you use it on a regular basis. That said, if you want an exfoliating product that may help you deal with acne, you may want to try Pond's Clear Solutions Anti-Bacterial Facial Scrub.

If you're looking for something that gives a squeaky clean feel and helps boost your skin's glow, try Pond's Pure White Deep Cleansing Facial Wash or Pond’s Mineral Clay Pure White Facial Scrub.

Or if you're looking for something that may help brighten your complexion, try Pond's White Beauty Facial Wash and see the results for your self.

Achieving smooth and glowing skin is easy as long as you're meticulous in your choice of products and are consistent in your routine. Take care of your skin, okay?
