Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres Reveals That She Has Skin Cancer
In an Instagram post, Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres revealed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer “from a big spot/mole I never paid attention to.” She writes, “It had been growing for years and had an uneven surface.”
Her fiancé, Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D'Esposito, had been "begging" her to have it checked. “Finally, he made an appointment himself. After a biopsy and a second surgery last Tuesday, the results, unfortunately, are positive.”
Since then, doctors have removed “a big area from the back of my knee [and] two lymph nodes at the top of my leg where it had already spread.” She says, “Now we are waiting to see which treatment I will be receiving… Hoping it has not spread to any more areas or organs.”
“As mothers, we are always taking care of everyone around us—our kids, family, and friends. Often, we forget to take care of ourselves,” says the host, dancer, and actress, who starred in movies with Aga Muhlach, Gary Valenciano, and Cesar Montano in the ‘90s.
“If I can help anyone along the way based on my experience, it would be to tell you to please, never forget to take care of yourself. If you see something or feel something different in your body, have it checked. I had no idea skin cancer could spread anywhere else in your body.”
Her two sons with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Cristian and Ryan, are “a bit scared but know about my faith and know that they have a warrior of a mommy!” She says, “I have put everything in God's hands and I know he has all control. ‘God doesn't give the hardest battles to his toughest soldier—he creates the toughest soldiers through life's hardest battles.’”
