How can I squeeze in some gym time if I’m too busy to do my laundry?!” Girl, luma na ‘yan! If Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can box for charity, help people with disabilities, AND talk about quantum computing while leading a country, kaya mo rin mag-multitask, especially if it’s for your health. Here, volleyball coach and player Charo Soriano gives no-BS fitness tips for the working Pinay.
#WerqFromHome
Give a whole new meaning to “work from home” by turning your condo into your very own fitness heaven. Charo gives us a rundown of the best in-condo workouts:
Jumping Rope: This is amazing for the heart and it tones your upper and lower body. No jumping rope? No problem! You can just “ghost jump,” where you mimic the same movement when you have a jumping rope.
Body Weights: No need to buy barbells, dumbbells, or resistance bands for this. “The best equipment you have [has always been with you all along]—YOUR BODY! You can mix and match basic moves like lunges, squats, planks, and push-ups,” Charo suggests.
Kettlebells: Did you know that 20 minutes of working out with a kettlebell can actually burn at least 400 calories? It’s considered a cardio and a full-body strength workout rolled into one.
And of course, you can also do yoga, free weights, and even stair climbing. You don’t need to stick to one workout to make your fit lifestyle possible. Yay!
Want Fitness On A Budget? All You Need Is...
“...a chair. What I do is pick a stable chair and put it by the wall. Then, I do several exercises: 1. step up and down (step on the chair and put the other knee up; go back down and step up with the other leg and pull up the other knee), 2. single-leg squats, 3. hamstring curls (done with a rolling chair), 4. seated oblique crunches, 5. straight arm hip lift, 6. chair push-ups, 7. tricep dips, and 8. elevated planks,” Charo explains.
And for the bookworms? Charo has something for you, too! You can do squats or wall squats, while holding a bag of books. The added weight makes your muscles work harder.
Perks Of Condo Living
Living in a condo that's near the "active zones" of a city like Avida Towers Turf BGC can help. Bonifacio Global City offers open spaces great for jogging or walking. What’s more, the workout spots are everywhere! There’s Track 30th the newly opened playground for fitness buffs, Turf BGC for the football enthusiasts (hot football players alert!), and different gyms and fitness studios that offer various types of exercises for those who are up for anything and everything.
Of course, you don't even have to go out of your condominium gates to get fit. Aside from the luxury of a spacious unit where you can do various workouts or even set up a mini exercise area, you get free access to facilities like an outdoor pool, a gym, and a play area, where you can exercise to your heart's content. “I love the sun, plus the great view of the city. I can enjoy the water, while incorporating my aqua training regimen,” Charo adds.
Small Steps, Big Changes
Going to the grocery near your condo? Instead of booking an Uber or driving a car, just walk or ride a bike. At first, it can seem like such a drag. But all you need to do is just to get started, and eventually, your body will get used to it. The beginning is always the hardest part, but we swear, once you’ve started, your body will love it and will crave for it, because it pumps up your energy—and the workout glow is addicting, too!
And if you're still not convinced? Charo urges, “Remember, doing small steps in a great condo with an active vibe like Avida Towers Turf BGC can totally lead to a better lifestyle and most importantly, to a healthier and happier you!” Avida Towers Turf BGC knows this all too well, so it has amenities and features that will inspire you to jumpstart an active lifestyle, and they offer chic condo units with workout-friendly spaces to keep you on track of your #fitnessgoals. No excuses this time, okay? You got this!
