Miss The Cast Of 'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo?' Here's What They're Up To Now
Six years have passed but Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is still one of our favorite K-dramas ever. No matter how many times we re-watch it (we already lost count), the feeling is still the same! NGL, we specifically look for the most *kilig* parts just to relive that moment when we streamed it for the first time.
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is a coming-of-age series and was a hit among K-drama fans during the year it was aired. For some, it was the show that made them a Hallyu stan because of the warm and cozy vibes it gives off. If you're feeling nostalgic right now and you're ~curious~ about what the cast members are up to, we've got you covered with *swaeeeeeg*!
Here's an update on the cast of Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo:
1. Lee Sung Kyung as Kim Bok Joo
The Lee Sung Kyung we all know remains to be the *queen* that she is. Nothing much has changed about her except that she's getting gorgeous every time! Sung Kyung still does modeling as she ~serve looks~ for various magazines and endorsement deals. Her latest project is the ongoing series Call It Love, which premiered on Disney+ last February 22, 2023 (watch out for our exclusive interview with her and the cast!). She's starring alongside actor Kim Young Kwang.
2. Nam Joo Hyuk as Jung Joon Hyung
After Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, Nam Joo Hyuk continued to be one of the most sought-after Korean actors. Since then, he played several main roles in different series including Start-Up with Bae Suzy and Twenty Five, Twenty-One with Kim Tae Ri. Last January 31, 2023, his agency, Management SOOP, shared that he already finished filming his upcoming drama Vigilante and will soon be enlisting in the military on March 20. Hoping for your safe service, Joo Hyuk!
3. Kyung Soo Jin as Song Shi Ho
Bok Joo's roommate and Joon Hyung's ex-girlfriend in the series happen to be the same person and that role was played by Kyung Soo Jin. Right after Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, she became a part of the 2017 webtoon-based K-drama Meloholic. Soo Jin was also featured in other shows like Train, Mouse, and Shadow Detective.
4. Lee Joo Young as Lee Seon Ok
We can *never* forget Lee Joo Young's character as one of Bok Joo's BFFs in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo! From there, we have seen huge potential in her not just because of her acting skills but also because of her beauty. Joo Young was then cast in Itaewon Class and by 2021, she finally landed her first lead role in the OCN thriller drama, Times. She recently appeared in the critically-acclaimed movie Broker alongside IU.
5. Ji Il Joo as Jo Tae Kwon
Ji Il Joo portrayed Tae Kwon, Joon Hyung's playful roommate who's a part of the swimming team, too. The 37-year-old actor was featured in various Korean series where he either snagged a supporting role or made a special cameo. For a timely update: We've seen him in the horror film Gangnam Zombie, released last January 5, 2023.
6. Kang Ki Young as Kim Dae Ho
Remember Bok Joo's funny uncle? That was played by Kang Ki Young! You have probably seen him in not just one or two but a loooong list of K-dramas. This includes While You Were Sleeping, I'm Not A Robot, What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, and Moment At Eighteen. His most recent project is Extraordinary Attorney Woo where he transformed into Atty. Jung Myung Seok, a.k.a the best boss in K-dramaland. One word for Kang Ki Young? He's ~thriving~!
