There are city girls, and then there are ~Makati~ girls. If you’re someone who works in this city, then you know that being in the Philippines’ very own version of Wall Street is equal parts fun and frustrating.
Below, five things that all Makati girls can relate too well.
1. You’re used to seeing double.
When it comes to shops and establishments that is. Can’t start the morning without your caffeine fix? No problem. Makati has your trusty coffee place located everywhere–across the street, on the next building, on your parking area! This also applies to convenience stores and fast food restaurants as well, so accessibility isn’t really a problem for you.
2. Walking is a regular part of your routine.
Makati is a city that promotes walkability with its strict implementation of drop off and pick up stops for commuters. The good news is that everything in the city is interconnected, so all places and buildings of interests are just a few minutes of walk away. Plus, the city is always improving its routes for pedestrians (overpasses connecting San Antonio village to the Central Business District are currently being constructed) so going to places is easier and safer. Don't you just wish you could move in a city where you can get plenty of exercise for your calves AND save on transpo expenses?
3. The traffic is way too REAL.
You need to be in the office at 9? Better wake up at 7AM then to make sure you don’t run late. Sure, traffic is a very real problem throughout the metro, but if you work in Makati, you have to add an additional half hour (or two) if you're coming from another city. The city has its own terms when it comes to traffic jams and this is on top of the terrible lining up and squeezing that you have to do just to catch a ride home during rush hours.
4. You never get FOMO.
As one of the busiest business districts in the country, Makati always gets first dibs on the latest and hottest happenings, whether it be a big mall sale or an exclusive lifestyle affair. It also has a lot of events that will satiate any culture lover such as weekend markets, light shows, and art fairs.
5. Where you live is kind of a big deal.
If you don't live in Makati but constantly visit it for work or other engagements, then the location you're coming from is pretty much a big deal. In addition to the traffic that you have to consider when commuting, you always constantly weigh if the reason for visiting the city is worth the hassle of traveling to it. Have you ever experienced canceling a dinner date because "Nasa Makati kasi eh?" Don't you just wish that you live right in the heart of the city?
The thing is, the city does have pretty good nesting grounds if you just know where to look. Take for example Avida Towers Asten by Avida Land. Located in San Antonio Village, the residence is perfect for Makati girls who are constantly struggling with their commute since it is located in the hip (but quieter) side of the Business District. It also has a low number of residents per floor—which means you don’t need to worry about noisy neighbors, YAAS—and is pretty close to the retail and shopping area of the city.
