5 Reasons Why You Should Be Dating A Mama's Boy

How he treats his mom says a lot about him.

It’s easy to fall for the bad boy for the thrill he gives you. But if you’re looking for an easy-going, long-term relationship, don’t sleep on the mama’s boy. The truth is he treats his mom well, and that extends to all other women. Here's how he is as your BF:

1. He makes you feel appreciated.

How a mama’s boy loves and takes care of you is often the result of the love and care he gets from his mom. He learned firsthand what women are capable of, and he carries that appreciation with him in his relationships. He’s your cheerleader and your partner—he'll celebrate your success with you and even push you to greater heights. When you forget to take care of yourself, he won’t.

2. He knows how to respect women.

Respecting women is one of the first things his mom taught him, which probably explains why he’s such a gentleman. BTW, chivalry (opening doors for you, pulling out your chair, etc.) doesn’t necessarily mean he’s undermining your abilities—at its very core, it’s a sign of respect and courtesy, and that’s how you should see it. Plus points if he doesn’t mansplain too. He doesn’t feel threatened if you’re smarter or more accomplished, and he values your advice because he knows what you can bring to the table.

3. He isn’t afraid to be vulnerable.

You’ve probably heard this before: "Men shouldn’t show emotion because it’s a sign of weakness." This is an outdated societal norm and the bane of any relationship’s existence. A mama's boy learns early on that there’s strength in vulnerability. He knows that closing himself off to you only exacerbates problems instead of solving them, so he shares his thoughts and feelings—this is what intimacy is all about.

4. He makes an effort to understand you.

Growing up close to his mom has exposed him to the raw, unfiltered, and straight-up ~nega~ dispositions women can also have, which is a counterpoint to their warm, loving, and protective side. He isn’t quick to label you anything or give up on you after your first big fight. He’ll make the effort to understand where you’re coming from and help resolve the issue.

5. He’s full of surprises.

While he respects your independence, he also loves making you feel special. He listens to your every kwento, so it’s no wonder he’s so good at surprising you with gifts or dates. He’s thoughtful in ways you wouldn’t expect, and loving in ways you've probably never experienced before.

It’s also heartwarming to see him go out of his way to make his mom feel special. Watch what happened when actor and mama’s boy Donny Pangilinan surprised his mom, Maricel Laxa, to a movie and dinner date at home for Mother’s Day:

Donny's resourcefulness and research helped him pull off the surprise, and a reliable internet connection can make it easy for you to run errands, book appointments, and even learn how to cook all from the comfort of your own home—just like what Donny did. And FYI, the internet is paving the way to a new TV-watching habit: It gives you access to endless amounts of content that you can watch whenever you want—so of course, you'd want a fast internet connection to watch your fave shows without interruption.
