Admit it: You have a closet full of clothes, but you probably wear only a handful of your favorite pieces. And while we can totally relate, wearing the same clothes over and over again might cause them to fade and stretch out. That’s why it’s important to take proper care of your garments. To help you get started, Comfort Care created the Comfort Care Co-Lab, a video series where fashion experts Rajo Laurel, Laureen Uy, and Daryl Chang share tips on how to take care of your clothes.

1. Wash your cotton garments immediately.

Known for its comfort and durability, it’s no surprise that cotton is one of the most popular fabrics used in our everyday apparel. However, cotton also absorbs liquid easily. So when it comes to removing stains, world-renowned designer Rajo Laurel gave us a useful tip.

“My pro tip, labhan niyo kaagad. Don’t wait. Wash it right away so you can remove the stains easily. The faster you wash them, the better.”

2. Turn your dark-colored and printed shirts inside out before washing.

Since wear-and-tear often happens in the wash, turning your clothes inside out could help protect them from abrasion during the cleaning process.

“Remember to turn them inside out before putting them to the wash to protect the print,” said stylist and fashion brand consultant Daryl Chang.

When it comes to drying the printed garments, Chang also gave us a tip on how to do it right. “Most prints get damaged by excessive heat, so don’t put your printed clothes in the dryer. Just hang them out to dry.”

Pro Tip: Use cold water when washing your dark-colored and printed shirts to further preserve their original colors and design.

3. Don’t hang your knits.

Unfortunately, gravity stretches out the neck and shoulders of your knits, so best to skip the hangers when it comes to this fabric.

“Knits are always prone to shape loss and stretching. You must roll or fold them to retain their beautiful shape,” explained Laurel.

4. Elevate your athleisure look with a blazer and accessories.

There’s no denying that athleisure has taken the world by storm with its perfect blend of comfort, function, and fashion. In fact, it’s Laureen Uy’s favorite outfit!

“I practically live in athleisure clothing. I feel like they’re so comfy and you can wear them every single day,” shared Uy.

To elevate your athleisure look, Uy and Chang recommend the use of an oversized blazer and accessories.

“Accessories take athleisure to a whole new level because it takes it out of the gym context and it doesn’t make it sound so literal,” noted Chang.

5. Use the right detergent for your style staples.

If you already do everything on this list and your clothes still don’t look their best, you’re probably not using the right detergent. The more you wear your clothes, the more prone to color fading, stretching, and roughness they become. This is why it’s important to choose a detergent that can address all these issues.

With Comfort’s technology, which deeply cleans and protects your garments from the signs of clothes aging—himulmol, yellowing, color fading, stretching, and roughness—you can wear your clothes more and keep them new for longer. Remember, the more care you give your clothes, the more you can get out of them.
