Food, clothes, and beauty products—these are some of the things that K-dramas make you buy. They just have a knack for making enticing PPLs (product placements). While the secret to how those gorgeous actors and actresses look is still elusive, we can certainly take notes and steal some parts of their beauty routines.
If you would like to do that or you know someone who’d love a K-drama-inspired makeup or skincare gift, we rounded up some beauty finds in Korean dramas. Oh, and these are the ones that cost more than P1,500. Some are definitely for the bougie only, but a few might just convince you to find a way to buy them.
Expensive beauty items in K-dramas
1. Kim Gon’s LED Face Mask
Price: $2,100 (around P105,650)
It could be an ultimate beauty splurge or an investment, depending on how you see it. The home of Lee Min Ho’s role in The King: Eternal Monarch called for fancy modern things. One of them was an LED face mask from CELLRETURN. The innovative tool helps with various skin concerns like elasticity, skin texture, and skin tone. It supposedly helps with acne and other blemishes, too. Lee Da Hee, who plays Cha Hyeon in Search: WWW, also used a similar mask priced at $1,740 (around P87,550). Local vloggers like Michelle Dy and Alodia Gosengfiao also reviewed the mask.
2. Yoon Se Ri’s Face Massage Tool
We’d love to cop Yoon Se Ri’s entire wardrobe and beauty stash, TBH, but one interesting device from Crash Landing On You is the Vanav UP6. It’s actually a face massage tool to help you apply and amp up the effects of your skincare. For example, in the drama, Se Ri uses the moisturization boost function, which makes sure your skin gets maximum hydration. A less expensive alternative is the Vanav Hot and Cool Skin Fit. It’s priced at $162 (around P8,150) and Seo Ji Hye (Hye Jin’s co-star in CLOY) swears by its temperature-changing feature.
3. Dr. Yoon Hye Jin’s Lipstick
Price: $38 (around P2,000)
The dentist in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha flew to the countryside to escape her job problems. She took her penchant for all things branded with her. Thankfully, her style is impeccable, similar to the actual actress, Shin Min Ah. In the series, she had a collection of Givenchy lippies and she wore one of them to "war" (reunion with colleagues). She donned on her Le Rouge Deep Velvet Matte Lipstick in Rouge Grainé. The striking red shade is definitely a must-have for any woman’s beauty armory.
4. Cha Soo Hyun’s Lipstick
Song Hye Kyo has always been a beauty icon. She absolutely doesn’t look her age. Gorgeous! Cop the elegant lady’s soft, rosy puckers in Encounter with SULWHASOO Essential Lip Serum Stick in shade 4 Rose Red. That’s if you find a store selling it here, of course. The lippie promises to moisturize the lips aside from giving it a dreamy color. Plus, if you think that Soo Hyun’s shade isn’t for you, there are several other hues to choose from, too. There are darker reds and bolder berries.
5. Cheon Song Yi’s Lipstick
In the drama My Love From The Star, Jun Ji Hyun plays an arrogant actress that’s practically all over the place. She might have a lot of flaws but style is definitely far from being one. Aside from the ‘fits she rocks, she also serves a lot of mean beauty looks. In one of them, she swipes on an iconic lipstick that sold out as soon as the episode aired: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in No. 52 Rosy Coral. Now that it’s been years since the drama, it’s possible to get your hands on the lippie.
6. Cheon Song Yi’s Cushion Compact
Another great find from the top-paid actress (IRL) and from the same show is the IOPE AIR CUSHION®. It’s the perfect makeup item if you (or someone you know) would love to get that glowy look. According to a beauty review from Soko Glam, the formula is lightweight and can be reapplied throughout the day as needed. Other reviews also say it’s good for sensitive skin. It also suits various lighter skin tones and the shades are very blendable and sheer. It’s a little bit harder to find this on the market, but once you get one, you might not want to switch to others anymore.
This list is by no means all-inclusive. There are plenty of other flashy skincare sets (like the one in The Penthouse), collagen powders (like the ones in Jirisan), and many other makeup items. Keep an eye out for them and sound off if you try anything!
Disclaimer: Local prices were converted and rounded up from listed international prices. Some items would definitely cost more or less IRL.
