After a self-imposed hiatus that spanned years, ABS-CBN's erstwhile resident girl next door wowed us with her showbiz comeback a few months back. Landing on the cover of FHM and playing a headstrong woman in the hit afternoon soap Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto, Kaye proves that she has broken free from the good-girl typecast.

As the returning TV star eased her way back into the limelight, one thing that immediately caught our eye was her mane transformation--she chopped her stick-straight locks in favor of a flirty cropped 'do!

We caught up with Kaye--who now wears her tresses thick and long--at the Jing Monis Salon Velvet launch and got her to dish the simple steps that keep her locks looking lovely and the hair product that she steers clear of. Read on to find out!

How do you take care of your hair? 

First and foremost, I hate hairsprays. As much as possible, I don’t use it. I only [use it] if there’s a formal event or [an] occasion such as a ball. But during tapings, guestings, or ASAP, as much as possible, again, no hair spray for me. Another way [I take] care of my hair is through hair treatments.

What are your recommended hair essentials for girls?

It’s essential to condition your hair everyday. So far, that’s what works for me.

What’s your fave hair style?

Ever since, I’ve really wanted to have short hair. Though there are actually several disadvantages if you have short hair, like you can’t style it easily or the way you want it; with long hair, you can style it [any way you want]. With short hair kasi, you have the tendency na mainip. But still, my fave hair cut is really, really short.

How do you usually style your hair on a typical day? 

“There’s no specific hair style. I just let my hair as it is. Sometimes, I blow-dry my hair to have some volume. Or after shower, [I] just brush it up and then ipit sa ears.”
