Denice Sy Talks About The Makeup Looks Pinays Loved In Each Decade

Cosmopolitan BEAUTYCON, the biggest beauty and wellness festival in the metro, was held at the SMX Convention Center from August 31 to September 1. The event was a huge success, thanks to the hundreds of Cosmo girls who flocked to the venue to shop the coolest brands. Plus, they also got to meet and listen to the talks of their favorite celebrities and influencers!

One of the speakers of Day 1 was Denice Sy, who is part of Ever Bilena's sales and marketing team. Her BEAUTYCON segment was called A Definitive Timeline Of Pinays' MOTDs.

Denice talked about the different ~lewks~ that dominated each decade in the history of Philippine color cosmetics. According to her, the '80s were heavily-inspired by MTV—everything was loud and colorful. Big elaborate makeup sets were a hit during that time. Women were also inspired by Madonna who always sported bold lippies and thick foundation

The '90s were all about minimalism. People were already using multipurpose products without them even knowing it. (Denice recalled a time when her mom would use lipstick as a blush for her cheeks!) This decade was full of browns and muted neutral colors.

The '00s were all about shimmer shadows. It was also during this decade when Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera were at the peak of their popularity, so bright white eyeshadow and frosted lips were in.

Denice ended her segment by saying: "It's not about makeup looks that last a decade, but rather, makeup looks that you want at the moment. It's a rehash of all the trends in the past because beauty is now more diverse." According to her, in the future, we will be seeing more "micro beauty trends," aka fads that won't last long, such as the wavy brows and floating eyeliner from recent years.
