My living room deserves nothing less than the perfect eye makeup, after all.

Though the Kardashian-Jenner clan boasts shed-loads of natural beauty, there’s no denying that they know how to build a crack-team of aesthetic geniuses around them, creating Kim’s snatched ponytails, or Kendall’s badass eyebrows, or Kylie’s incredible hair switch-ups.

Makeup genius Mario Dedivanovic is no stranger to the crew, having worked with Kim for years. In fact, most of her signature looks can be attributed to his mastery.

The latest look Kim, his muse of muses, has inspired? A halo eye. Recently, Mario and Kim took to Instagram on the KKW Beauty account to share a signature smoky eye look using KKW’s Smokey Volume palette, and we were very ready to receive wisdom.

Here’s how it differs from your average smoky eye. First, Mario pats (note: no "dragging!") a base shade, Risque, into the center of Kim’s eyelids. Nothing to see here, all normal smoky-building behavior.

He then applies deep brown shade Exotic using the same brush on the outer corners of the lids, blending subtly. Again, I hear you ask, what’s the difference? Where’s the optical illusion?

Here’s the thing. Instead of leaving the look at that, he then takes the shade Exotic into the inner corner of the eye, contouring upwards near the nose.

And for the money move itself? Don’t attach the two half-moon shapes of contour in the middle. Instead, leave a portion of negative space in the center of the lid.

The result? A super subtle smoky look, where deeper shades are banished to the outer corners and the center of the lid is left clean-looking and bright. It opens up the eye, keeps things bright, and gives you the chance to experiment with new shades you've never tried before.

We’re not sure who exactly came up with this trick, though it should be said that raven-haired icon Katie Jane Hughes is also partial to the brightening optical illusion that a halo eye brings (see her "Hello Halo" highlight on Instagram).

With my palettes sitting tragically unused at the moment, I for one will be taking this as a sign from the gods to get back in the eye makeup game.
