Remember Maine Mendoza’s first collaboration with MAC Cosmetics—that warm, peachy nude which sold out in a minute?

ICYMI, she’s back with her second #MACMaker collab! This time, Maine came up with not just one, but two products—a fiery red matte lipstick, and a high-definition, deep red lipgloss, both fit for different Pinay skin tones.

The colors are stunning for sure, but we can’t deny that a lot of Pinays feel intimidated by red lipstick. But one of the upsides of getting to work at home is being able to experiment with your makeup. Besides, what better (and easy!) way to give yourself a polished, video call-ready ~lewk~ than by swiping on some red lipstick?

If you’re eyeing the bold shades from Maine’s latest MAC collection but aren’t quite sure how to make them work for a video call, check out our tips below:

1. Choose neutral shades for the rest of your makeup.

Reds are dramatic hues, so make sure you don’t overdo it by dabbing smokey shades on your lids and bright blush on your cheeks. Besides, an intense eye and overly contoured complexion can look muddy through a webcam. Instead, opt for light and neutral-toned shades to balance your whole look.

2. Pat in the color with your fingers.

If you’re hesitant to wear a red lip during a video call with your boss, consider softening the hue by using your fingers to pat in the pigment. That way, you’ll get a diffused, blotted color that’s not too overpowering. You'll also look full of life and ready to take on whatever work you need to tackle for the day.

3. Use a lip pencil first.

Lip pencils are your best bet to prevent the lipstick from bleeding outside your lip line. And since webcams can make everything look blurry, it's a good way to add more definition to your lips. Before swiping lipstick on, carefully trace the outline of your lips starting from your cupid’s bow down to the corners of your mouth for precise application.

4. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips.

Matte lips look great in video calls, but the texture can be a bit drying. To avoid dry and rough-looking lips, exfoliate your puckers with a lip scrub and moisturize with a lip balm.

5. Top it off with lipgloss.

If you're called into an unexpected team huddle, look put-together quickly by simply swiping on a pigmented red gloss. Voila, you're done!
