We know how annoying it is to apply your favorite mascara in the morning only to see it already smudged on your lower lash line by 11 a.m. But before you toss it out and look for a "better one," take note that it might not be because of the mascara itself.
The possible culprit? Your eye cream! Pixi Global Makeup Artist Director Amanda Bell says "The moisture and oils from the eye cream mix with the heat and oils from the skin. This heat rises up toward the mascara and affects the formula, which breaks down the ingredients to form those dreaded mascara bleeds and smudges." Yikes!
Since we don't want you to waste a perfectly good jar of eye cream, do these tips to avoid smudgy mascara again:
Tap it in.
Your undereye's skin is very delicate. Doing gentle tapping motions will help quickly absorb the product into the skin.ADVERTISMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW ↓
Use your ring finger.
It's the finger with the lightest touch! And when you're putting something on skin that's as sensitive as the undereye area, you want to be as careful and gentle as possible.
Apply a pea-sized amount.
To avoid having a greasy, slippery base, use a tiny amount of cream on each eye. And ICYDK, you're supposed to pat the eye cream all the way up to your brow bone!
Let it dry.
If you're going to apply makeup after, wait for your complexion to fully drink in the cream first. This will prevent your makeup from sliding and disappearing throughout the day!
Set the area with powder.
Even if the eye cream has completely dried, this extra step is like another layer of protection to avoid mascara slipping down to your lower lash line. It's so worth doing!
