I Tried SkinPotions' *Glowy* Face Powder To See If My Skin Could Look Like An Angel's

Spoiler: I'm no angel, but this face powder got my skin to look like one.

Loose face powder is something that never appealed to me because I found it messy to use. Why opt for a powder that can easily spill when there's a compact, pressed version, right? But when SkinPotions came out with Glowdust, honestly, I was intrigued. Unlike most powders that mattify your complexion and blur imperfections, this one's goal was to make your face look healthy and radiant.

When it landed on my desk, obvi, I had to test it out to see if it could change my opinion on loose powders. See what I think of the product below!

What is the SkinPotions Glowdust?

SkinPotions Glowdust is a loose, illuminating mineral powder that firms, lifts, brightens, and evens out your complexion. It helps control the pores' sebum production while giving the skin instant radiance. Its smooth, velvety formula effortlessly blends on the skin and never feels heavy or looks cakey—a huge factor of what can make or break a face powder.

What it reminds me of

When I first laid my eyes on Glowdust, I instantly remembered the Glossier Wowder! Like Wowder, Glowdust comes in a sleek tub and has an adorable pink lid. Both contain light-reflecting particles to make your skin look dewy and oil-absorbing capabilities to prevent your face from looking greasy. Aside from that, both can be worn alone, as a lightweight base or on top of foundation to set it! The only difference I found between the two is Glowdust is a ~mineral~ powder; meaning, it won't irritate sensitive skin and clog the pores!

Shades

The SkinPotions Glowdust powder comes in three shades:

  • Extra – A pale cream
  • Sizzle – A true beige
  • Drama – A neutral-toned sand

Ingredients

Boron Nitride, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Dimethicone and Zinc Oxide, Lauroyl Lysine and Barium Sulfate, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer and silica, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Mica (44 to 56 percent) (and) Iron Oxide (44 to 56 percent), Phenoxyethanol (and) Ethylhexlglycerin, Vitis Vinifera Seed Oil

Scent

Generally, I don't like scented makeup and skincare products because I have a sensitive and easily irritated nose. If a product is scented, though, I prefer those that have a light, fresh fragrance and aren't heavy or nakakahilo.

Glowdust's scent is neither light and fresh nor heavy and dizzying—but it DOES smell a bit like a mix of chalk and clay (weird, I know). It's very faint so it's not noticeable, except whenever I apply the powder on my nose. It doesn't smell bad, but I'd still rather not inhale it. This is why whenever I use it, I just breathe through my mouth and wait for the scent to disappear after a few minutes.

Texture

This powder has a super smooth and finely milled texture, which makes it a dream to apply on the skin. It's lightweight so there should be no problem with it clogging pores. Glowdust is also pigmented enough to even out your complexion. You can definitely wear it alone if you're not in the mood to put on multiple layers of foundation on your face.

How to use

  1. Gently unscrew the powder's lid to prevent the product from spilling out.
  2. Using a powder brush or stippling brush, lightly dab on the tin's net mesh to release the product.
  3. Once you have enough powder on your brush, either lightly sweep or stipple the product on your face.

Price

The SkinPotions Glowdust retails for P399!

Experience

My skin first felt SkinPotions' Glowdust magic powers on Holy Thursday during Holy Week (April 2019). As per our family tradition, we had to go to church to confess our most grievous sins. I, being a beauty girl, didn't want to go out in public without anything on my face—I felt naked and I had terrible eye bags. So I put on some concealer, swiped on tinted brow mascara on my arches, applied lipstick on my puckers, and evened out my complexion using Glowdust. And W-O-W.

Once I saw how my skin looked, I was amazed and shocked at the same time: I knew I was wearing powder, but it didn't look like it! My entire face was matte yet the high points such as the tops of my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose were ~*glowing*~. It was like I used a face powder + highlighter, but really it was just one product! "Now I'm ready to face my priest," I thought to myself.

At the end of that day, my face did look a bit shiny—but not greasy. This wasn't that bad considering we walked around Bonifacio High Street for a few hours and the weather was hot and humid AF. I was also surprised the powder didn't disappear because other foundations, liquid or powder, tend to fade towards the end of the day.

Having a medium skin tone, I wore the SkinPotions Glowdust in the shade Drama. Mixi Ignacio

After that day, I've continued to use the powder as either a lightweight base or the last step in my foundation routine.

Is the SkinPotions Glowdust worth it?

Um, duh! I've always been curious to try Glossier's Wowder, but now I don't feel the need to because I'm almost 100 percent sure this is a more affordable and better alternative! With its lightweight texture, the healthy finish it gives my skin, and the amount of product I get for less than P400, it's practically a steal. If you're looking for a loose powder that can grant a natural-looking glow, you need *this* in your life.

However, I do wish Glowdust had more shades. As I mentioned above, the brand only released three colors—but the Philippine population is comprised of more than three skin tones. Here's hoping that deeper hues will soon come out so my morena sisters can try it for themselves.
