At the recent MAC Cosmetics Spring/Summer 2017 trend presentation in Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu, Director of Makeup Artistry Gregory Arlt shared the beauty looks every girl on the planet will be aiming for this season.
According to Gregory, the general theme is makeup that women actually want to wear. Gone are the days of perfectly precise makeup that look like they've been meticulously applied—instead, it's all about believable beauty that anyone can achieve. And, as you'll soon realize, us Pinays will definitely appreciate how these trends suit our environment and climate. In fact, we're practically spoiled! ;)
Here are the major trends to expect for Summer 2017, summed up into four simple keywords:
This trend is all about the lived-in look. Imagine applying eyeliner, only to mess it up and smudge it out. Lipstick, on the other hand, is hastily applied as a juicy stain, or made the focal point of a bare face. That worn-out effect your makeup takes on after a long, sweaty night on the dance floor? Yup, it's totally desirable this season.
Summer brings to mind bright, vivid colors, which is partly what this trend is about. Instead of taking yourself too seriously and filtering your selfies until you're unrecognizable, it encourages you to get playful with your color choices and makeup application. Graphic liners in cobalt, feathery lashes in yellow, lids painted in pastel pink–there's no room for overthinking and second-guessing with these eclectic, unapologetic looks.
Skin has never been more in! Whether on the runway or IRL, complexions should have a "less is more" finish—perfect for our hot tropical climate, if you ask us! Luminous and dewy skin takes center stage, and it has to come from within. Short of prescribing a full skincare routine, MAC's makeup artists recommend moisturizing serums, oils, and glosses for that plump, hydrated look. Skip the makeup tools and apply with your hands to heat up the product and allow it to melt on to skin.
To contrast Free's unabashed approach to color, we have Warm. As the name suggests, this trend focuses on earthy tones and peachy shades that enhance one's natural beauty. Think of that healthy glow you get after some time at the beach, and imagine mimicking it on your lids and lips. Reach for peach, coral, and rose gold hues—they look stunning against sun-kissed skin.
