1. Thou shall take off makeup at night, no matter how late one turns in.
We don't care if you get home at 4 a.m., still hungover from patraaaan tequillaaaa. You absolutely still need to remove your makeup with an oil-based cleanser (It removes eye makeup ridiculously well!), so your skin won't feel parched the morning after. The last thing you want is to wake up with an ugly zit on your forehead—on the day that you're having lunch with that office hottie.
2. Thou shall not scrimp on sunblock.
Even if you're just staying indoors the whole day. Applying SPF is your physical protection from the damaging UVA/UVB rays of the sun, which can cause premature aging. If you hate feeling sticky after you slather on sunblock, you might want to switch to a gel-based formula— like Neutrogena's Hydro Boost SPF 30 (P830, available at leading grocery stores) which moisturizes, protects, and keeps oil at bay.
3. Thou shall quit smoking.
We're sorry to break it to you: Smoking destroys collagen and elastin, which in the beauty world means you can get wrinkles pretty early on in life. Which totally sucks, BTW.
4. Thou shall get a facial once a month.
Unless you have a lot of acne. In which case, it's best to get weekly treatments, according to Zaidy Zagala, MD, an associate physican at the Belo Medical Group.
5. Thou shall not apply hair conditioner EVERYWHERE.
Your scalp already contains natural oils, so conditioning your roots will just make your hair greasy and limp. Apply a volumizing conditioner to the ends (where your tresses tend to get drier), and rinse off after about three minutes.
6. Thou shall spray perfume only on pulse points.
Spritz your fave fragrance at the back of your knees, your wrists, and your neck. These areas emit more heat, and more heat intensifies the smell of your perfume.
7. Thou shall exercise.
The #1 reason why Victoria's Secret supermodels look like they're lit-from-within? Exercise. Lots of it. Physical activity improves blood circulation, which results to healthy, glowing skin.
8. Thou shall disinfect your smartphone every night.
Are you breaking out on your temple, chin, and cheeks? Those are probably caused by your late night chikahan sessions with your BFF over the phone. Your screen is a breeding ground for bacteria, so use baby wipes to clean your phone's surface every night.
9. Thou shall not obsessively overscrub.
So you bought an electric cleansing brush, huh? It doesn't matter what brand you use, you CANNOT use this every day—while you're doing an at-home peel, microdermabrasion, and applying a gazillion anti-acne products on your face. This is counterproductive, and will trigger more breakouts. Another thing: Your skin can exfoliate on its own, so let it do its job—and only exfoliate when it's absolutely necessary (twice a week is fine).
10. Thou shall moisturize strategically.
It's a rule that's only applicable to girls with oily skin. Instead of slathering your entire face with product, apply an oil-free moisturizer on your skin's dry patches. If you're on the dry side, go ahead and apply all over.
