Even though it's already 2019, the vagina is still very much shrouded in *~mystery~*. Common questions and myths include, "Is discharge normal?" "Should you douche a vagina?" "Follow up question, WHAT even is vaginal douching???" "Will I still be a virgin if I use a tampon?" and my personal favorite, the age-old question, "Where is the clit?"
But, I think that one of the most enduring questions regarding our vag is, "What exactly should it smell like?" Books, movies, and our (sadly) patriarchal society have long dictated to us women that a vagina should smell like a field of fresh daisies and should taste like a sweet mango, and that if it doesn't meet those criteria, there's something wrong with it.
Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to do much to keep your vagina feeling and smelling fresh. It's actually designed to clean itself, so you don't really need to scrub hard or use harsh products to keep it clean. Using heavily-scented products can actually do more harm than good, and it can disturb its pH level and the natural balance of microbes that are *supposed* to be in your vagina.
Cleaning the vulva (the external part of the vagina) only requires warm water and mild soap or feminine wash. Below, a list of feminine washes that will keep your vagina clean and won't disturb its normal pH level:
pH Care Naturals Papaya Feminine Wash
Of course, everyone's first and OG feminine wash should be number one on the list. pH care has different variations to choose from, but a good recommendation would be their Naturals line, since it's mild but still does the job well. It's clinically formulated with a pH level of 5 to match the pH level of our external genitalia.
