These Good Habits Will Keep Your Vagina Healthy

Before anything else, let's have a quick anatomy lesson: What we call the vagina is actually the vulva (the external part of our genitals). The vagina is part of our internal genitalia; it is "a tube that connects your vulva with your cervix and uterus." What we're about to discuss is vulva care 101, but since we call it "vagina" more often, we'll use that term throughout the story.

You take care of your face, so why not do the same with your vagina? Your vagina is just as important as any part of your body so it deserves all the love you can give. And no, we're not talking about doing an extensive skincare routine (although, we would like to suggest this). We're here to explain the good habits you should follow to keep your vagina healthy.   1. Choose the right underwear.

    It's important to let your vagina breathe. Synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon restrict the ventilation in the area. This traps moisture in the vagina, which makes it prone to infection. Stick to cotton underwear instead.

  2. Avoid tight clothing.

    Wearing underwear and bottoms that are too snug can also restrict air circulation. As much as possible, stay away from skinny jeans that are too tight. Opt for trousers instead—aside from letting your bikini area breathe, you'll look polished, too!

  3. Bring your own tissue.

    I hate to break this to you, but can you imagine the germs lurking in public restrooms' tissue? It's positioned near the toilet bowl—whenever somebody flushes, the water may splash on the sheet. Eep. So please, bring your own tissue. Better safe than sorry.

  4. Stay away from feminine washes with harsh ingredients.

  5. Change your napkins and pantyliners often.

    Napkins and pantyliners are breeding grounds of bacteria because 1) they catch your period and discharge and 2) they trap moisture. Wear a fresh one after every three hours on heavy flow days and every five hours on light flow and regular days.
