What are watercolor tattoos?
As its name suggests, a watercolor tattoo tends to mimic the textures of a watercolor painting. To achieve that, a tattoo artist makes use of different techniques like shading, blurring, and fading, etc.
Do watercolor tattoos fade easily? How long do they last?
"If well taken care of, all tattoos won’t fade easily," Don Sheldon Asuncion, tattoo artist and founder of PintaDon Tattoo Studio told Cosmopolitan Philippines. He also explained that the longevity of your ink will depend on the "placement of the tattoo and the activities of the client."
Eventually, though, all tattoos will somehow fade over time. But don't worry—you can always get a touch-up if you want to keep your colored tattoo looking vibrant.
Does it hurt to get a watercolor tattoo?
Getting any kind of tattoo will hurt a bit, TBH. However, Don notes that pain varies for every person. It will vary depending on a lot of factors, including your pain tolerance, the placement of your ink, and the design of your tattoo. "The amount of time it takes to finish the tattoo is a big factor. The longer the session will be, the more painful it gets because our pain tolerance lowers down in the process," he explained.
How do you take care of watercolor tattoos?
According to Don, caring for your watercolor tatt is crucial, especially during its healing stage, which is "within a month after the session."
To keep it from fading easily, applying sunscreen is a must, especially if your ink is placed on your shoulder, hands, legs, and other areas that are exposed to sunlight. Here are a few things to avoid, according to the tattoo artist:
- As much as possible, avoid direct sun exposure
- Avoid engaging in strenuous activities that will cause you to sweat a lot
- Avoid using whitening products
- Avoid scratching at tattoo scabs
- Avoid swimming for at least a few weeks after you've gotten your new tattoo
How much does it cost to get a watercolor tattoo?
The price of a tattoo depends on the artist, the size of your tattoo, and the complexity of the design. According to Don, the cost of getting a "minimalist watercolor tattoo" at his tattoo studio starts at P3,500.
