It has long been the practice of some local publishers of romance novels to use the faces of Hollywood celebrities on their covers.
"Oldies" but goodies. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie + David Duchovny back when The X-Files was "new." pic.twitter.com/dPft5wwoIm— Sleepless Girl (@sleeplessgirl) March 18, 2017
Every celebrity is fair game—from local showbiz personalities to foreign stars. Although, we have to admit, it's rather disorienting when foreign personalities are on the covers.
My God! They even used the late John F. Kennedy Jr. for a cover! pic.twitter.com/G96rACE7cZ— Sleepless Girl (@sleeplessgirl) March 18, 2017
We don't recall any celebrity (or their representatives) publicly objecting to the practice. Of course, it could be because they don't know that their pictures were used.
Just recently, Hollywood actor Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones in the TV series Riverdale, found out his face was on the cover of a local romance novel titled A Remedy From Mr. Heartbreaker. He then posted a sarcastic tweet calling out the publisher.
Shoutout to this publisher for using my face as the love interest of a romance. "A Heart Remedy From Mr Heartbreaker" in trashcans near you. pic.twitter.com/WChX0xycja— Cole M. Sprouse (@colesprouse) March 15, 2017
Cole's Filipino fans responded by showing him other romance novel covers featuring other celebrities.
