Horror and thriller films: Either you love them or you hate them. Still, we’ve all, at one point in our lives, have seen films or shows under those genres that have left us sleepless for days. Sometimes, you even remember a particular scene and just squirm.

We asked our awesome girls in our Cosmo Mixers group about this, and they shared the most disturbing shows and films they’ve ever seen:

  1. “The Haunting of Hill House. I watched this because the Internet was talking about it but I'm super duwag talaga so I invited my brother and my cousin over (they both love this stuff) and kept the TV in my peripheral vision lang. STILL. NAKAKATAKOT OK. I live alone, and my condo gets really, really dark even when the sun is out so I have to actively block scary thoughts at night if I don't want nightmares. Was unsuccessful for weeks 'cause of The Bent-Neck Lady.” – Ysa
  2. Human Centipede. I don’t count this as a horror film but definitely disturbing (and disgusting).” – Kait
  3. “When I was in 2nd year high school, my French FL teacher made us watch Martyrs, a 2008 French horror/psychological thriller film. It’s about a girl who was tortured as a kid and enlists the help of her friend to track down the people responsible for her torment. There were a lot of graphic scenes that I was wincing for about 80 percent of the movie, lol. Pero it’s a must-watch if you’re into that kind of stuff! It’s the kind of movie that stays with you long after watching it.” – Cheska
  4. Midsommar was incredibly disturbing! There were so many details that were so hard to shake off and it’s not just the shock that gets to you. Also, the cinematography is like a contrast to the whole movie itself because while the scenes were incredibly dark, the visuals the movie had were sunshine-y with fields of flowers, white dresses and flower crowns.” – Bea
  5. Shutter. Matagal ko nang napanood pero everytime na sumasakit na 'yung likod ko or yung balikat ko 'yung scene doon talaga agad ang maaalala ko.” – Venirose
  6. Sinister. I love how it immerses the viewers in the mystery, leaving the viewers thinking what the movie is all about—is it a ghost film, a suspense thriller with a human killer, or is the protagonist delusional? Then everything culminates brilliantly at the end. It left me thinking for days after watching.” – Mishaelle
  7. I Spit On Your Grave. Really gruesome revenge story! It’s a 2010 American horror film and a remake of the controversial 1978 cult film. So intense! Feel na feel na parang reality show.” – Jamie
  8. Hereditary! That sound made by Charlie creeps me forever.” – Pam
  9. Oculus and Oldboy! Oculus confused me so much as the audience. I rarely get the creeps after watching a horror film, but this one had me covering my mirrors that night, lol! Oldboy was just plain disturbing.” – Jonina
  10. Green Inferno is the most disgusting. The movie is about cannibals. Promise, you can't eat baby back ribs after watching it.” – Claire
  11. "I randomly stumbled upon Forest of Love: Deep Cut on Netflix, and I decided to give it a go. That was the weirdest thing I've ever watched. Apparently it was based on true events which makes it even disturbing!" – Retty
  12. "Horror is my LEAST FAVORITE genre because I was scarred for life after watching The Sixth Sense and What Lies Beneath as a child. Yuck talaga. So I haven’t really consumed a lot of horror over the years. But I came across Jordan Peele’s Get Out and I was just blown away by it—I had to watch more of his work. I mustered up the courage to watch his latest film Us, sa cinema pa, take note! It was thrilling, intense, and so socially relevant that if I were braver, I’d watch again and again. Us was freaky, yes (Lupita Nyongo’s performance alone was hella creepy!) but the real horror lies in its message. FU-REE-KEE"
