It's been almost two years since Taylor Swift released Red, so we were beyond ecstatic when she finally announced the new single from her fifth album, 1989 (That's the year she was born, FYI). Although it comes out on October 27, we already got a taste of what her "very first documented pop album" will be like with "Shake It Off," a dance-tastic fantastic first track that speaks of a very important life lesson:
Cause the players gonna play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate
Baby I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake
Shake it off
In an article published on People.com, Taylor shares:
"I had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple of years, that people can say anything they want about us at any time and we cannot control it. You can descend into insanity over it if you want. Option two is you can just shake it off."
Taylor debuted her album and single via a Yahoo and ABC News live stream on August 19 from the top of the Empire State Building, no less.
Some things you need to know that Taylor answered during her fan Q&A:
1. There will be a deluxe edition of the album, containing voice memo bonus tracks straight from Taylor's phone! "You'll hear me singing just an idea and some melody and some words then you'll be able to go to the record and you'll listen to what it ended up when it was finished."
2. There will be 13 Polaroids in each album (P.S. 13 is Taylor's lucky number). "So you'll open the album, and then you'd be like, 'Oh, CD! Oh, envelope of Polaroids!'" Heads up: There will be different packets featured in every album—how awesome is that?
3. Taylor will be giving away 1,000 tickets to her next tour in 500 meet and greets. YES. Go to taylorswift.com for more info! It's called "1989 Swiftstakes" which we love, BTW.
4. Her "Shake It Off" music video directed by Mark Romanek is inspired by the "idea that you can tell who someone is by how they dance."
Taylor explains, "If you go to a house party and see a group of people who are too cool for school, [who judge] people who are dancing, I don't feel like they are having as good a time as the people they are making fun of—the people who don't care how they look dancing, 'cos they like dancing. So we decided to get this huge group of incredible professional dancers of all different types of dance, and throw me in the middle of them. And see what happens!"
Fun Fact: At the end of the video, you'll see around 100 fans who were plucked from social media and they have kept the secret for two months!
